This position requires an individual who is capable of applying the knowledge and experiences pertinent to coaching with a minimum reliance upon “on-the-job” growth. This person works under the direction of the Head Wrestling Coach. This person helps with supervision and assists with the coaching of the Wrestling Team during both practices and home games. This position will be assigned primary responsibility for coaching a part of the team. The incumbent must be sufficiently flexible so as to be able to relate effectively with a wide range of students. It is expected that the incumbent will discharge all duties in an ethical, effective and efficient manner.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS EMPLOYEE IS ACCOUNTABLE
1. Under the leadership of the Head Wrestling Coach, assumes responsibility for the preparation and training of the Wrestling squad, and provides supervision and leadership for both practice and competitive activities. Organizes, supervises, coordinates, and evaluates practice sessions and related activities with proper attention to the players’ mental, emotional, social and physical well-being.
2. Attends and provides supervision for practice sessions and matches. Attend away meets as much as possible.
3. Assists with pre-season conditioning and strength programs for each athlete. Organizes pre-season workouts.
4. Assists the Head Wrestling Coach with student scouting and recruiting.
5. Assists with preparations for home athletic events and travel arrangements.
6. Provides an example of competitive, but sportsmanlike conduct. Deals fairly and honestly with all persons concerned with the sport.
7. Provides direction and assistance to student-athletics in achieving their academic, athletic and personal goals.
8. Becomes familiar with and implements all necessary college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position, including student rights and responsibilities concerning harassment of any kind and drug and alcohol use.
9. Communicates and enforces college policies concerning the conduct of student-athletes.
10. Keeps abreast of professional developments in wrestling by reading appropriate professional literature and attending training events.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
