The opportunity:

The Farmingdale, NY facility is looking for General Workers for various shifts to help with the movement of work in process and finished product through processes. The General Worker will also issue raw materials in a timely fashion to designated workstations, and assist in labeling, packaging, and shipping of finished goods.

How you will impact WestRock:

• Reviews job ticket and selects the proper type and quantity.
• Loads and unloads paper/stock.
• Stages trays, cages, pallets, cartons, dollies, skids, cut material, folded material and waste containers as required.
• Empties waste containers in each process area.
• Performs banding, stretch wrapping etc. of materials for shipment.
• Delivers shipments to various departments.
• Interfaces with truckers for outbound shipments, ensures all necessary documentation and samples are properly secured with outgoing shipments.
• Acts as a back-up for shipping, receiving, and warehousing.
• Inspects paper for defects or damage.
• Performs visual and physical inspections of in-process and finished products as requested.
• Assist in labeling, packaging, and shipping of finished goods.
• Actively participates in teams and projects.
• Feeds or packs an assembly line.
• Follows all standard operating procedures relevant to the job, position and department.
• Follows established policies, work instructions and safety and environmental guidelines.
• Records production information such as amount of time spent on specific tasks.
• Performs all assigned work effectively and on schedule.
• Follows instructions accurately.
• Keeps work area neat and clean.
• Responsible for timely and accurate completion of quality checks for each job.
• Performs job duties in accordance with all federal, state, local, and company safety rules.
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

• Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Previous relevant experience in manufacturing/warehouse environment is preferred.
• Must have or be able to obtain a forklift license.
• Must learn and follow written rules and procedures.
• Must produce accurate documentation.
• Must be able to perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Must be able to maintain good attendance.
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.
• Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
