What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator position at WestRock?
The Opportunity:
We have an opportunity for a Yard Equipment Operator at our Rupert, WV, Gauley Wood Yard. The basic job description woodyard loader operator is as follows:
Employee must first receive WestRock safety training and show understanding of training. This understanding includes the knowledge that safety is always the first priority and that Westrock Safety practices and procedures are to be strictly followed without exception.
The loader operator position is considered to be the top position on the woodyard. To reach this position the employee must be trained in and show the ability to perform all lower level jobs. Job progression includes the following:
Yard Maintenance
Prehauling
Unloading of inbound trailers
Loading of outbound trailers.
Yard maintenance includes all work related to keeping woodyard in safe working order and any general appearance items that need to be addressed This includes but is not limited to the following.
Debris clean up storage and disposal as needed. Water truck operation for dust control. Snow Removal, Grass mowing, weed trimming painting and general building maintenance. Training is provided on the following pieces of equipment to perform these tasks. Wheel loader, Water Truck, Tractor with rake. Lawn mower, weed eater, Fork Truck, and any hand tools deemed necessary.
Prehauling includes any and all work related to staging transfer trailers to be loaded, weighed cleaned, inspected and staged for contract hauler to pull from yard. Training is provided on the following pieces of equipment to perform these tasks. Yard spotter trucks, Chainsaws, Pole Trimmers, Wheel loader, Tractor with rake and misc. hand tools.
Unloading of inbound loads includes Safely unloading multiple vendors trucks and trailers in a timely matter as they arrive. Safely stacking of unloaded wood to provide safe storage and efficient reloading of inventory and maximizing inventory in available space. Recording dates of completion of each row stacked to aid in first in first out management. Training is provided on knuckleboom loader or material handler depending on location to perform this task.
Loading of outbound trailers includes the Safe loading and first inspection of outbound trailers for shipment. Operator must develop the ability reload wood from inventory onto outbound trailers. The loads must meet safety requirements, quality requirements, weight requirements and efficiency requirements to meet the needs of the Covington Mill. Training is provided on knuckleboom/material handler and Yard spotter truck to perform this task.
What You Need:
Able to lift 50 lbs.
Mechanically inclined.
Able and willing to be trained on equipment operation.
Must be willing to work outside in all seasons.
Must be willing to travel to Covington VA and Monterey, VA on a limited as needed basis.
Work in the scale house as needed.
Work overtime as required.
