What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at WestRock?
Title: Maintenance Technician – Johnstown, OH
The opportunity:
- Shift: 6am-3pm Monday-Friday
- Pay: $30-$35/hr
How you will impact WestRock:
- Maintenance PLCs are expected to follow safety protocols strictly. There are additional safety protocols that must be observed when working in high-voltage (up to 600 volts) areas as these present a potentially deadly environment.
- Perform preventive maintenance as directed through the completion of periodic inspections of electrical systems and production equipment in an effort to identify sources of possible defects in order to prevent unexpected breakdowns; recommend strategies to replace or fix electrical problems if identified; and generally make sure that all electrical systems of the building they are assigned to work are performing as required and may include the maintenance of air conditioning and lighting systems; they may reference blueprints and/or wiring diagrams in planning their preventive maintenance work.
- Act expeditiously when electrical system and equipment breakdown occur. This may include tracking down electrical short circuits or identifying problems with PLCs or other electrical components. They must be able to safely perform different testing procedures to determine precise origin of electrical problems, at times when circuits are live, and do repairs
- Evaluate and communicate to management about the extent of damage and make recommendations regarding the continuation of operations and how to repair the damaged equipment as well as give an estimate of the duration of shutdown if operations have stopped.
- May be required to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), bend electrical conduits and use equipment to work on hard-to-reach and/or confined spaces, including the use and operation of forklifts and articulating lift when working at ceiling height.
- Use of common hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, and knives; various meters for testing amps, ohms and voltage of electrical systems; work with a laptop and the appropriate software to help in troubleshooting the electrical control portion of the equipment.
- Completing all tasks as assigned by the supervising manager and attending job training activities.
- Maintaining records of all electrical inventories and placing orders for spare parts and equipment.
- Keeping a log of electrical repair and maintenance work
- Coordinating work functions with co-workers and other organizational departments
- Follow building codes implemented by the state and local government in repairing or maintaining electrical equipment
What you need to succeed:
The candidate will have a broad knowledge of industrial electrical systems used in commercial and industrial buildings and demonstrated the ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and systems. The candidate will possess a high level of physical fitness and manual dexterity along with excellent color perception ability. The candidate must demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to read and understand instructions. Additionally, he/she must possess the necessary skills to perform diagnostics using a laptop and to establish communication to the equipment’s processors’ memory.
