Latin Teacher, beginning August 2022
Westtown School is seeking a part-time Latin teacher for one introductory sixth grade course for the 2022-23 school year. The successful candidate will be comfortable with introductory levels of Latin, be familiar with educational technologies, and will have experience with and a passion for teaching learners new to language acquisition. The Middle School Latin program serves as an entry point for new language learners.

Major Duties and Responsibilities*

Develops culturally competent and responsive lessons and learning activities that promote problem-solving, creative thinking, collaboration, and effective communication skills while encouraging risk-taking in learning;
- Contributes to building and sustaining an inclusive community and a program which reflects diverse cultures and perspectives;
- Actively involves students in the classroom through group work, project-based learning, exploration, questioning, discussion, and other cooperative teaching techniques;
- Interest in 21st century pedagogy, integrated performance assessment, and continued professional growth are essential
- Integrates technology seamlessly into teaching strategies and practices;
- Communicates effectively with all constituents – colleagues, administrators, parents, and students.

Qualifications*

A bachelor’s degree in Education, Classics, or a related subject preferred
- Relevant classroom teaching experience, preferably in a Latin or world language classroom;
- A strong character with a team-oriented spirit, and the ability to connect meaningfully with students throughout our diverse community;
- A deep commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices;
- Strong affinity for the mission of Westtown School and an educational philosophy consistent with the school’s Quaker values.
