What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Function Coach position at Weyerhaeuser?
Responsible for the overall safe management of the mill operations for a specific function. The Grayling OSB mill started up in 1982 and has a fully functional High-Performance work system. The Operations Function Coach is a member of the mill Extended Lead Team, and reports to the Operations Manager. This is a full time, exempt position.
Key Functions:
- Work as a member of the mill Extended Lead Team to achieve area safety, quality, production, and cost/profit goals.
- Define, implement, and lead the achievement of department goals.
- Complete and present performance appraisals for all direct report employees, outlining positive and negative performance, and document a plan of action for sub-par performers. Assess the skill level of employees and provide training as needed to advance skills.
- Mentor and train production team members, assisting in creating professional and technical growth goals. Identify future leaders and support their leadership development.
- Participate with other Leadership Team Members within the corporation in developing best practices and implementing standard policies, procedures, and instructions for the production team.
- Communicate with the sales, finance, engineering, and customer service teams regarding relevant production financial data.
- Possess a working knowledge of cost management, cost containment, productivity, uptime planning and optimization
- Maintain a consistent presence on the production floor
- Participate in, lead, facilitate, and communicate production continuous improvements through Lean Initiatives such as, Kaizen (CIA), Value Analysis, Kanban, Error Proofing, Problem Solving, Standardized Work, Quick Set-Up, and Six Sigma activities
- Responsible for Continuous improvements in Functional area and leading Root Cause Analysis.
- Drive corrective action process for the production team, including the creation of action plans and ensuring effective resolution for key production team projects and quality issues
- Present key business information to production team employees
- Assure compliance with all safety and environmental standards.
- 2-5 Years of experience in leadership role in an industrial setting.
- Effective communication and analytical skills: ability to identify technical enhancements to processes and systems; ability to package concepts and sell conclusions or ideas with professionalism.
- Candidate must be able to work flexible schedules in rotating departments when needed.
- Undergraduate degree preferred in operations management, production management, engineering, general business management or computer science or equivalent education and experience.
- Strong computer skills
- Willingness to travel and potentially relocate temporarily for a developmental assignment if needed
The following qualifications are desired:
- OSB product and process knowledge are highly desired
- Lean and six sigma experience
- Experience in a High-Performance Work System

Salary : $59,000 - $74,800
