Whitewater River Guide (Trip Leader)

Soaked & stoked! The River Tour Guide (Trip Leader) is the right-hand and sidekick to our jet boat Captains. They work in the heart of the action, guiding our 45-minute jet boat tours of the Niagara River and Devil’s Hole Rapids. For this position, you must love meeting new people and speaking in front of crowds (and don’t mind getting your hair wet). The ability to make a good boat joke is considered an asset. Current First Aid and CPR certifications are preferred but all training and certifications are provided in-house for successful candidates.

Responsibilities:

• Act as a guide of jet-boat tours on the Niagara River
• Narrate the history of the Niagara River using microphone equipment
• Deliver the pre-trip guest safety orientation – speaking in front of over 100 guests
• Safely load and unload passengers onto boats; physical assistance is required
• Assist Captain with daily mechanical maintenance and duties as requested; bail water from airtight holding containers
• Assist with daily cleaning of vessels and river gear
• Handing out of passenger gear to guests
• General tidiness and cleaning of change rooms, grounds, parking lot, buildings, power-wash decking, garbage removal
• Recording of pre-defined video clips on the tour using a GoPro Hero camera
• Passenger first aid

Ideal Candidate would have or acquire (Whirlpool will pay for all required certifications):

• First Aid and CPR certifications are preferred
• (2 years) Customer service or guest-facing experience
• All ages welcome, 18
• Fluency in other languages is also an asset

** The ability to work in both Canada and the USA considered an asset

Most of our positions are seasonal, beginning in late April-May and finishing around Halloween. But our staff love it so much, they come back every summer!

Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours has been giving passengers a taste of adventure on the white water of the Niagara River since 1992. Passengers experience a thrilling and educational one-hour guided tour, where they can take in the awe-inspiring scenery of the Niagara Gorge, feel the rush of the Class 5 Devil’s Hole rapids and marvel at the power of the Niagara Whirlpool. The tour company’s fleet of custom-built jet boats depart from locations on the Canadian and American sides of the Niagara River, including Queenston, ON and Lewiston, NY.
