Material Handling
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include a variety of shipping, receiving, packing, unpacking, loading, unloading, stock loading, material handling and material control. Regular computer use is required as well as the ability to multi-task, follow direction, and work independently to complete daily task requirements. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:
Lifting up to 25 pounds.- Operation of forklift.
- Effectively use applicable computer programs involved in shipping and receiving.
- Compare identifying information and counts, weighs or measures of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders and other records.
- Determine method of shipment.
- Affix shipping labels on packed cartons.
- Assemble wooden or cardboard containers OR collect/select pre-assembled containers.
- Insert items into containers.
- Nail covers on wooden crates and bind containers with metal tape.
- Identify all shipping information on containers.
- Post weights and shipping charges, affix postage.
- Unpack and examine incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and correspond with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
- Route items to correct line / departments.
- Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
- Maintain inventory of received materials and supplies.
- Operate lift truck or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
- Training of other employees may be required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
