Position Summary :

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment, ensuring the efficient operation of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and related systems.

This role involves performing various maintenance tasks, including painting, patching walls, and installing security hardware.

The specialist also updates inventories and supplies, plans and schedules maintenance activities, and supervises preventive maintenance, repairs, and routine inspections to maintain the safety and functionality of the facility.

Position Responsibilities

Perform general maintenance and repairs on building infrastructure, including painting, patching walls, and installing security hardware.

Maintain and repair electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and related systems to ensure efficient operation.

Update and manage inventories of maintenance supplies and equipment.

Coordinate and perform routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify and address maintenance needs.

Execute preventive maintenance tasks to prolong the life and functionality of facilities and equipment.

Manage the upkeep of grounds, including the maintenance of trees, lawns, and shrubbery, as well as snow and ice removal.

Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to ensure a safe and functional environment.

Operate and maintain tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures while performing maintenance activities.

Assist in coordinating with external contractors for specialized maintenance and repair work.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, materials used, and any issues encountered.

All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Key Competencies :

Proficiency in general maintenance and repair tasks, including painting, patching walls, and installing security hardware.

Strong knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and related systems.

Ability to update and manage inventories of maintenance supplies and equipment.

Skill in coordinating and performing routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment.

Experience in supervising and executing preventive maintenance tasks.

Responsiveness to maintenance requests and emergencies, ensuring timely and effective resolution.

Proficiency in operating and maintaining tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks.

Strong adherence to safety regulations and procedures during maintenance activities.

Effective communication skills for coordinating with external contractors and other staff members.

Attention to detail in maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team to support the overall maintenance and functionality of the facility.

Minimum Requirements and Education :

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.

Demonstrated knowledge of building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

Proven ability to perform general maintenance tasks such as painting, patching walls, and installing security hardware.

Experience with preventive maintenance and routine inspection procedures.

Basic inventory management skills for maintaining supplies and equipment.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to maintenance requests and emergencies promptly.

Proficiency in using and maintaining various maintenance tools and equipment.

Understanding of safety regulations and procedures relevant to maintenance work.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with staff and coordinating with external contractors.

Physical ability to perform maintenance tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications :

Five (5) or more years of experience in facilities maintenance or a similar role.

Advanced knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

Certification in specific maintenance areas such as HVAC, plumbing, or electrical.

Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Familiarity with sustainable maintenance practices and energy-efficient systems.

Demonstrated experience in supervising maintenance projects and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.

Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, schedule, and oversee maintenance activities.

Proficiency in maintaining detailed records and documentation of maintenance activities.

Excellent leadership and team coordination abilities.

Working Conditions

Physical

Sitting for extended periods of time when performing duties. Lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds. Occasional bending and / or reaching for supplies on ground level.

Continuous use of hands in repetitive tasks such as simple grasping, twisting / turning of wrists. Finger dexterity to perform various clerical duties such as typing, writing and maintaining files.

Continuous speaking and listening for interaction with staff and vendors. Continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for normal processing of work

Mental

Continuous alertness, precision, and concentration to ensure the accuracy of work. Frequent performance of basic numeric calculations, writing, reading, comparing and analyzing.

Frequent use of judgment, reasoning and patience in executing multiple projects concurrently. Continuous problem solving.

Continuous initiative in performing duties with little or no direct supervision.

Environmental

May have to work long hours and irregular hours such as evenings and weekends. Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions.

Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the risk.

Compensation Details :

This is a non-exempt position with a target starting base compensation of $22.60 per hour DOE- paid on a bi-weekly basis.
