What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor of Hog Receiving position at Wholestone Farms?
Summary
Responsible for supervising the receiving of all incoming delivered hogs. All direct reports receive, sort, count, tattoo, and pen all deliveries of hogs. The Supervisor of Hog Receiving will monitor the receiving yard and be responsible for proper building functions including fee systems, pen watering systems, pen misters and ventilation settings. This position is also responsible for all mandated Animal Welfare and safety policies and procedures and company requirements during the receiving process.
Education, Licensure and Experience
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred and 2 years of related experience and/or training in a Production environment; required.
- Bilingual preferred but not required.
- Certified TQA trainer preferred but not required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Please note: This in no way states or implies that these are the only duties you will be required to perform. - Coordinate and supervise all hourly employees who receive and process all live hog deliveries.
- Follow hog handling directives and procedures in order to comply with company Animal Welfare policies and procedures as well as FSIS directives.
- Responsible for supervising employment related items regarding payroll, work schedules, performance reviews, vacation, staffing, etc.
- Must understand and adhere to all applicable company and collective bargaining agreement policies and procedures.
- Responsible for scheduling adequate staffing to properly handle hogs to be delivered to the plant.
- Ensure all employees are properly trained on all hog handling processes pertaining to the movement and care of live hog deliveries. Each employee must have individual training and should be furnished with appropriate training materials.
- Supervise the proper counting, identification, and classification of hogs.
- Train all employees on the proper methods and procedures to achieve accurate counts when live hogs are received.
- Review daily delivery commitments to determine that all information is correct pertaining to trucking, arrival times, site name and premises ID.
- Responsible for ante-mortem inspection and live hog monitoring as required under USDA guidance, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point documentation.
- Ensure employees are trained to remove any non-harvest animals that are defective for any reason.
- Perform hog procurement duties as needed.
- Furnish relief for swine receiving specialist as needed.
- Responsible for the proper hog drive count to match harvest goals established.
- Report any livestock handling infractions to the proper personnel.
- Report any yard defects to proper personnel and ensure each is corrected.
- Must become TQA certified.
- Operate and train employees on use of mechanical equipment, such as skid steer loader.
- Always represent the company in a professional manner.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
