Wieland is hiring a Forklift Operator. The Forklift Operator will be responsible for reporting to the Casting Supervisor, operating heavy equipment in compressing copper scrap of various shapes and sizes into bales in preparation for smelting, inspecting and operateing forklifts, bobcats, backhoes and various other equipment as needed. This role is located in Pine Hall, NC and will be fully on-site.

Starting Pay: $18.21/hourly

Schedule: 2-2-3 schedule working 6:45 am to 7 pm Dayshift

Pay Schedule: Bi-weekly

Forklift Operator Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
• Performs daily inspections of assigned equipment and submits documentation of inspection results to Supervisor.
• Operates forklifts, bobcats, backhoes and other equipment in preparation, compression into bales and staging of scrap copper prior to smelting.
• Assists with charging and other casting activities as required.
• Responsibilities include housekeeping duties throughout the department.

• Must be able to perform firm grasping, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, standing, crouching, sitting, negotiating stairs, ladders, and slippery surfaces in a hot/cold (summer/winter) environment, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Work safely with, around, and wearing protection for cleaning chemicals, solvents, copper fumes, inks and lubricants.
• Must be able to work around the casting furnace which contains molten metal that is heated to 2150 degrees.
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment for assigned duties.
• Must be able to firmly grasp and operate a 70 lb. (and occasionally a 90 lb.) jackhammer with another employee. The jackhammer bar weighs between 50-75 lbs. Used 2-4 times per eight hour shift for approximately 10-15 minutes each time.
• Must be able to firmly grasp and use pipe wrenches, hammers, and various hand tools during adjustments, repairs, and replacement / change-out operations.
• Must be able to firmly grasp and control a pry bar (20 lbs.) during removal (prying, scraping, and striking) of copper build-up.
• Must be able to firmly grasp and use a slag hoe (50 lbs.) approximately once per shift for approximately 10-15 minutes.
• Must be able to operate Barko.
• Must be able to use a shovel during cleaning operations.
• Must be able to communicate information effectively and accurately.
• No education or experience requirements. However, a clean criminal record, and the ability to read, write, and do basic math is required. Work history will be reviewed for stability where applicable.
