Wilbraham & Monson AcademyPosition Opening: Director of Diversity, Equity and InclusionSummaryWilbraham & Monson Academy (WMA) is looking to hire its first Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) who can help lead and implement the Academys equity and inclusion strategic vision. The Director will oversee a wide array of initiatives and activities. The direction of the equity work at Wilbraham & Monson Academy should be grounded in the experiences, voices and hopes of the students. To make this possible, a key responsibility of the Director of DEI will be to support deep listening and understanding between students and adults in the community.
The Director of DEI will cultivate authentic relationships with students (particularly those with social identities at the margins) and integrate their perspectives into the design of school-wide professional development, coaching and other transformative equity work. This is a 12 month administrative position.Wilbraham & Monson Academy recognizes the need to foster a healthy and safe home for all members of our community. As this is a new administrative position at the Academy, it will be an opportunity to help create an environment for change and provide ample opportunity for professional growth.Reports to: Head of School Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Student Facing Programming InitiativesCreate spaces of listening and support for students related to DEI needs in the communityCollaborate with students and faculty advisors of alliance and affinity groups (ASA, BSU, GSA and the Stone Society)Supervise and support the International Student Office Plan events to support established school events and alliance group initiativesTeach one class or coach, as determined by the needs of the school and the experience of the candidate Serve as an advisor to five or six students Adult Professional Development Support academic leaders in their work to create curriculum, pedagogical practices and programming through a lens of equity and inclusionIdentify, develop and facilitate faculty and staff professional development and coaching opportunities relative to DEI initiativesSupport RolesProvide equity-focused consulting and support to all departments and offices on campus through collaboration with the Administrative TeamIdentify strategies for the recruitment, hiring and retention of faculty and staff in ways that support the DEI values and vision of WMASupport students, faculty and staff in recognizing, responding to and restoring from bias incidents, as well as creating proactive and preventative practices and policies that foster an inclusive climate and culture Support the Advancement and Admission offices with diversity outreach initiativesHelp to further define this role as the position evolvesServe on the following committees/teams: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team (Chair)Program Team Academic Team Administrative Team Harassment Review BoardOther ResponsibilitiesResidential Duty - for those choosing to live on campus, housing is provided and residential responsibilities expected.
If living in on-campus housing, approximately one evening per week of residential duty and four to five weekends per academic year are expected. Those choosing not to live on campus have no weekly residential responsibilities but have four weekends of activity driving coverage per year.
