Junior Zookeeper Program Coordinator positions for the 2023 summer season (beginning May – September).
Working together alongside the Education Department, these positions are responsible for the implementation of the 2023 Junior Zookeeper Program. Duties include but are not limited to: training Juniors to handle and care for the education animal collection, creating and implementing fun activities for Junior Zookeepers ages 10-17, creating and distributing a work schedule for program participants, planning and overseeing the day-to-day activities of Junior Zookeepers (animal care, education ambassador booths, structured lessons, animal encounters, etc), and assisting with the daily operation of the Education Department.
The ideal candidate will work well within a team setting as well as independently, demonstrate strong communication skills, have the ability to multi-task, and posses a
strong desire to work with junior high and high school students. This is a unique, exciting and hands-on opportunity to further one’s career in Zoo education.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or currently obtaining a degree in a field complementary to Wildlife Safari’s mission; Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Conservation Education, Environmental Education, or related field
- Experience as a formal or an informal educator or interpreter, including creating and implementing Conservation Education curriculum preferred
- Experience working with junior high and high school students
- Exotic animal handling and husbandry experience preferred
- Must be willing to work overnight camps
- Able to speak to the public both individually and in a presentation setting
- Good people skills
- Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license
- Negative TB and drug test
- Ability to work Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week
- Certification in CPR/First Aid preferred but not required
- Required to work outdoors and indoors in extreme weather conditions; ability to lift up to 50 (fifty) pounds
