Structural Engineer in Training

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects is currently seeking an Entry Level Structural Engineer in Training (EIT/EI) to support the bridge design team in our Kansas City, MO office. The position will focus primarily on assisting with design calculations and plan production on railroad projects. Other job responsibilities include structural site investigations and construction inspection. We are seeking a self-motivated individual who is eager to learn and grow as a professional while working in a spirited team environment with projects that have quick turnarounds.

Essential Job Functions:

• Operate with a high level of independence, confidence and organization in addition to possessing a strong work ethic.

• Demonstrate an ability to actively engage in a team environment.
• Must be willing and able to travel to project sites, as occasional travel may be necessary
• Perform structural design engineering calculations on bridge components, that include but are not limited to steel girders, prestressed concrete beams, concrete abutments & piers, and retaining, using standard techniques, codes, and procedures with direct guidance from senior engineers.
• Assist with plan production (CAD drawings), geometric layout and quantity development.
• Develop design alternatives or recommendations to provide well thought-out options to our clients.
• Support field investigations or assessments.
• Exercise proficient written and oral communication skills.

• Inspired by and interested in structural bridge design.
• Working knowledge and skills in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Microsoft Office software, and a variety of structural engineering analysis and design software
