Overview
Job Summary
Provide support, leadership, and direction for all maintenance functions to support the day to day operations and maintenance of the distribution center facility including structural and equipment repairs, additions and upgrades, control of contractor services, project management, material handling, equipment maintenance and facility safety. Perform related duties.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the operation and control of industrial ammonia refrigeration system including coordination of system shut downs, alarm responses, daily preventative maintenance and emergency response plans. Ensure all documentation and written plans are complete, accurate and in accordance with Federal, State and Local requirements.
- Oversee fire protection and security system maintenance and operation through periodic maintenance, inspection and testing of alarms, water flow, sprinklers, etc. to ensure safety, reliability and operational integrity. Maintain compliance with national fire alarm codes, NFPA regulations, insurance requirements and other locally adopted codes and standards.
- Manage maintenance of material handling equipment through a preventative maintenance program, daily safety inspections and timely repairs to ensure reduced downtime and optimal productivity of equipment.
- Maintain vehicle maintenance system; audit work orders, purchase orders and parts inventory. Administer equipment transfers and retirement.
- Manage overall maintenance, repairs and upgrades necessary to maintain optimal function and operation of building structures, equipment and facility support systems including HVAC, energy systems, backup power system, air quality control, water system, gas, electrical, waste management, etc. Act upon opportunities to improve efficiencies.
- Manage and oversee relationships and expectations with all 3rd Party Service Providers to ensure that they adhere to all WinCo Foods LLC policies and expectations.
- Initiate, coordinate and facilitate projects secured through a bid process with outside contractors. Ensure work meets job specifications, timelines, safety and quality standards. Provide training and outline company expectations while on premises.
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local Regulations. Review, update and maintain policies/procedures and documentation for regulated programs. Establish operating procedures for each applicable process including emergency planning and response, mechanical integrity of equipment, hot work permits, hazmat, employee training, lockout/tagout, confined space, spill containment, waste management, underground storage tanks, etc.
- Responsible for the hiring, training, and scheduling of all maintenance staff. Supervise and direct the work of material handling equipment mechanics, utility mechanic and maintenance clerk. Provide guidance, training and prioritization of daily work assignments.
- Coordinate with the Facility Maintenance Managers at all WinCo Distribution Centers to maintain consistent programs, standards, and compliance performance.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- At least two (2) years in a maintenance position with responsibility for facilities including refrigeration and fire systems.
- At least four (4) years working in a position responsible for facility maintenance including fire prevention, security and waste management systems, AC/DC electrical, hydraulic mechanics, PLC programming, HVAC and plumbing, etc.
- Demonstrating the ability to interpret and stay current with federal, state and local regulated programs, applicable codes and standards outlined by such agencies as OSHA, EPA, NFPA, etc.
- Demonstrating skills in leadership, organization and communication.
- Demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail to effectively monitor progress and complete assignments within established schedules, timeliness, and/or deadlines.
- Prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrating knowledge of host, PC and internet-based software applications including Microsoft Office software; (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Utilizing strong proficiency with numerical data and calculations.
- Demonstrating adaptability and flexibility when confronted with challenging situations or obstacles; comfortable with change and ambiguity; practicing constructive criticism and dealing well with difficult co-workers and supervisors.
- Demonstrating effective oral and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of internal and external team members and customers.
Ability to:
- Apply working knowledge of material handling principals, practices and standards of warehousing.
- Understand overall company warehousing practices, in-depth understanding of policies/procedures and the ability to judge/react to shift operation needs.

- Computer, keyboard, mouse, office equipment (telephone, fax, etc.) and other devices.
Additional Requirements:
- Acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles driving record.
- Ability and willingness to consistently work in all climates and conditions that exist in a Grocery Distribution Center, including areas that require as low as 20 degrees to ambient dock temperatures.
Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:
- At least two (2) years in a maintenance management position with responsibility for facilities including refrigeration and fire systems.Secondary technical training and/or certification(s).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field OR equivalent education and training.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a Profit and Loss statement for Facility Maintenance Department, and experience in the Capital Expense planning, budgeting, and forecast process.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Certified training in ammonia refrigeration systems by an accredited training facility.
- Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association (RETA) certification 1 and 2.
