What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary School Counselor position at Windham Central Supervisory Union?
Townshend Elementary School and Jamaica Village School are two of the three K-5 elementary schools in the West River Educational District. We are in Townshend and Jamaica, Vermont and we serve 130 students between the two schools. Our schools benefit from an excellent staff and a supportive community. As a rule, our students are resilient, hardworking and curious and their families are involved in their school lives. Our staff is dedicated, child-centered and well-trained; they work together with purpose and are devoted to their jobs and to the children and families that we serve.
We are currently seeking a dynamic, innovative and energetic School Counselor to join our MTSS team. This is a contracted position 1.0 FTE position between the two schools with the counselor serving 4 days a week at Townshend Elementary and 1 day a week at Jamaica Village School. Qualified candidates must be certified or certifiable for a counseling license in the state of Vermont. Our staff must be driven to meet the academic, social & emotional needs of our students in our collaborative, creative and professional environment.
Our commitment to social justice and educational equity will be reflected in our daily operations including recruitment, admission, student and staff retention, responsibility for modeling and reinforcing upstander behavior, school, and family support, hiring practices, curriculum, and respectful dialogue. We strongly encourage Educators of Color, BIPOC, AAIP, and Immigrant candidates to apply. Based on collaborative conversations with students, families, and our educator community, we recognize the roles and impacts Educators of Color have in students learning, growing, and thriving in educational communities. Acknowledging that Vermont and our community are predominantly white, we are deeply committed to authentically fostering relationships with and supporting Educators of Color in our community while growing in our capacity to do so.
