Shift Differential is available on top of regular salary: $4/hour for 2pm-6pm and $8/hour for 6pm-6am
SUMMARY:
Performs duties concerned with the care of the sick and injured, prevention of illness and promotion of good health in compliance with LaSalle Corrections, facility, and correctional healthcare directives. Employee will provide nursing services to inmates to the extent allowed by the Nurse Practice Act, and in accordance with ADC directives and healthcare standards. Employee will provide nursing services under the direction of the RN, DON, or Health Services Administrator.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records. Knowledge of nursing practices. Must be able to perform tasks outlined in Policy and Procedure manual and in accordance with all applicable State and Federal regulations and various healthcare standards. Ability to relate well to demanding patients in stressful situations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
⮚ Render first aid treatment and assist RN in treating serious accidents or illnesses.
⮚ Treat minor injuries and illnesses according to physician instruction and maintain health records.
⮚ Cleanse and dress wounds, operate emergency equipment and provide follow-up nursing care as required.
⮚ Prepare and distribute specified medications and drugs and assist in developing programs to prevent or control diseases and accidents.
⮚ Assist in the management and coordination of the weight control, smoking cessation and other programs.
⮚ Monitor inmates restricted to medical observation.
⮚ Perform routine lab tests in accordance with approved standards.
⮚ Triage, assess chief complaints, take vital signs, do appropriate charting and assist with chart review duties and with patient care.
⮚ Assist the physician or extender when needed.
⮚ Demonstrate appropriate professional behavior.
⮚ Maintain clinic facilities in accordance with the highest standards of health care.
⮚ Promote the development of positive social skills among inmates through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
⮚ Maintain accountability of property and equipment; adhere to safety practices.
⮚ It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
⮚ Graduation from a nursing program approved by the State Board of Nurse Examiners;
⮚ Certification as a Vocational Nurse valid in the state; LA
⮚ One year of nursing experience required.
