Summary:
The Controller will be responsible for financial transaction processing, reporting, analysis, and projections; with an emphasize on cost data for all inventory items and overseeing cost estimates; maintain/improve manufacturing reporting, inventory systems, and costing systems. This function acts as the analytical engine of the Company to provide insights and support “optimal” manufacturing operations decision-making. The Controller will be a catalyst for continuous improvement of people, processes and technology throughout the organization.
Job Duties:

- Leads and supervises month-end close process and financial statement preparation with particular focus on analysis related to inventory and manufacturing operations.
- Oversees general accounting, cost accounting, inventory, accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
- Compiles and publishes monthly financial reporting package, creates bridges / waterfall charts with analytical commentary to explain variances to plan, forecast, and prior year and attends monthly financial review meetings with senior management and departmental leadership.
- Understands drivers for divisional allocations of SG&A expenses.
- Maintains and improves manufacturing reporting and product costing systems to provide more timely and accurate analysis of production operations and product costing. Work closely with cost accountant, manufacturing operations management and employees to improve reporting and work order data collection procedures.
- Partners with sales to provide business intelligence analytics and casual analysis for sales, margin, customers & products inclusive of reconciling the sales and margin database to the General Ledger.
- Owns the Balance Sheet account reconciliation process, ensures reconciliations and account reviews are completed to ensure adequate support.
- Manages the annual PLAN and quarterly forecasting processes.
- Works with the Sales, Operations, Procurement and HR departments to accumulate PLAN and quarterly forecasted sales and production volume, revenues and product costs.
- Partners with manufacturing plant leadership to develop, track, and execute annual productivity targets that drive cost savings opportunities, improve KPI’s and increase profitability.
- Advises on strategic initiatives within manufacturing operations related to operations, sourcing changes, capital spend, and innovation.
- Performs "what if' analysis for capital equipment purchases and potential major customers related to manufacturing operations and prepare Return on Investment (ROI) analysis.
- Develops understanding of commodities, transportation, and manufacturing process to assess impact on Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and set standards.
- Performs financial analyses and other projects as directed by the General Manager, Plant Managers, Chief Financial Officer, or Ownership.
- Evaluates Winona’s accounting practices in accordance with GAAP to ensure conformance with standards.
- Research, monitor changes, and assists with the implementation of new accounting standards.
- Maintains and develops internal accounting controls; document processes, identify internal control weaknesses, and provide recommendations.
- Manages and coordinates the Company fiscal year-end audits as the lead representative working directly with our external auditors, coordinates task assignments, due dates, and completeness.
- Prepares and coordinates annual or semi-annual bank audits.
- Contributes to other projects and initiatives, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; Master’s degree and/or CPA OR CMA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 - 8 years of progressively responsible experience in cost accounting or financial analysis in a Consumer-Packaged Goods (Food or Beverage) environment, with significant exposure to cost accounting methods.
- Knowledge of cost accounting, variance reporting and new product development.
- Experience in budget preparation and financial analysis required.
- Excellent mathematical, quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Previous leadership experience preferred.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including functional experience with Business Intelligence tools and ERP systems.
- Strong communications skills including verbal, written and ability to give presentations to all levels of the organization.
- Treasury/Banking experience preferred, but not required.
- Occasional travel required, as necessary.
- High level of confidentiality.
- Ability to read and comprehend documents such as credit information, margin reports, sales figures, productivity information, etc.
- Ability to write standard documentation.
- Ability to effectively present information to other employees in the organization.
