What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Winpak Portion Packaging?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The purpose of the Buyer position is to purchase materials for various departments within the plant, with the goal of minimizing inventory, eliminating outages, reducing costs and maintaining high quality standards.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Process requisitions and order materials and services within company standards and guidelines.
· Issues request for quotes (RFQ) and selects the best source, consistent with cost, quality and delivery requirements.
· Negotiates terms of purchase favorable to the company and works with vendors, requestors, and departments to resolve problems as they arise.
· Acts as a liaison between suppliers and involved departments to solve procurement related problems.
· Maintain purchase order files and supplier contracts within facility.
· Obtain continuity of supplies within facility.
· Track and issue all monthly blanket purchase orders.
· Work with engineering group to issue purchase orders for Capital Appropriations.
· Work with accounting group to coordinate month-end close requirements.
· Report immediately to your supervisor any safety problems, machine issues, vendor issues, that may affect the production equipment.
· Work with Purchasing Manager for new vendor set-up and other activities as needed.
· Responsible for reporting food packaging safety problems to plant management.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Act as backup to the storeroom clerk when required.
· In the incumbent’s absence these responsibilities will be transferred to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager or designee.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be trained in and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation, pre-requisite programs, chemical control and food safety plans and policies.
· Must be competent to carry out food packaging safety and quality responsibilities.
· Use/wear all required personal protective equipment and comply with all safety regulations and policies.
SKILLS:
· Proficient with MS Office and working knowledge of ERP systems
· Intermediate computer skills.
· Strong organization and time management skills.
· Good communication skills.
· Basic math skills.
EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION:
1-3 years of experience in a purchasing/inventory position.
High school diploma (or equivalent) plus an Associates Degree (or appropriate work experience) with two years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
