Research Nurse Specialist – Starting mid-May Location: Brooklyn, New York Duration: 3-4 months (covering maternity leave) Hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
Position Summary: The Research Nurse Specialist is sought to perform a variety of technical and administrative duties related to specific clinical research studies within the Cancer Clinical Trials Office. This role requires a dedicated individual who upholds ethical conduct in healthcare practices and ensures optimal quality of medical care for patients participating in research studies.
Job Responsibilities:
Ensure optimal quality of medical care for patients enrolled in studies, adhering to established ethical standards for healthcare personnel.
Assist in the development of educational materials and manuals for patients and staff as needed.
Participate in continuing education programs and educate nursing staff on drug protocols.
Stay updated on new methods of treatment and venous access devices in the field.
Arrange follow-up visits with patients to assess the quality of care and apply appropriate physical and psychological assessments.
Implement interventions in the event of adverse patient responses.
Assess patient eligibility for investigational studies, reviewing patient history and abstracts, and recording pre-study lab data.
Review "informed consent" with patients and coordinate necessary follow-up tests.
Assist physicians in preparing IRB documents and maintain correspondence with sponsoring agencies.
Ensure adherence to study requirements according to protocols.
Monitor study drug administration and perform pharmacokinetic studies as outlined in protocols.
Attend to laboratory procedures for processing, storing, and shipping specimens.
Qualifications:
Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience in clinical research, particularly in oncology, preferred but not required.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in computer applications and electronic medical records systems.
