Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS), Southern Wisconsin Center (SWC) is recruiting for a Financial Specialist Advanced.

Work hours are 7:45am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

SWC is a state run, licensed and certified Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ICF/IDD). SWC provides a wide variety of programs and services designed to assist and prepare individuals to live successfully in the setting that best meets their needs. Position Summary

As the Financial Specialist Advanced, you will be responsible for performing advanced accounting, reconciling, and auditing functions using the State of WI computerized accounting system (STAR/Peoplesoft), and the resident computerized financial system (Insight). You will be responsible for the areas of A/R, A/P, vouchers, resident trust funds, revenue accounts, purchases, credit cards, and capital equipment for the DHS Bureau of Fiscal Services. Additionally, you will function as a lead worker, coordinating workflow for 2 Financial Specialist-Senior’s.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $29.00 per hour or the minimum at the time of appointment, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 02/15.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Experience performing financial audits, reconciliation, and bookkeeping in a business setting.
  • Experience processing account receivables and account payables.
  • Experience using Excel to create spreadsheets to track project expenditures or data.
  • Experience using accounting software in a business setting (e.g., Oracle, PeopleSoft, Hyperion, QuickBooks, Peach tree, etc.)

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience using PeopleSoft or a similar program to perform duties such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, capital asset tracking, preparing journal vouchers, etc.
  • Experience leading, directing, and planning the work flow for two or more employees
  • A degree in accounting
