Description
I. POSITION GOAL
The accounting analyst is responsible for general accounting functions including but not limited to accounts payable and receivables, general ledger, banking reconciliations, and government contract billings and reports.
II. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares account receivable billing and post-related journal entries
- Audit ledgers for accuracy and assists in the preparation of ad-hoc requests for account analysis
- Track and monitor In-Kind Rent and post related journal entries
- Calculate appropriate indirect cost allocations and post-related clearing journals
- Assign grant award codes and maintain grant awards coding control log
- Record wire transfers between various accounts
- Record realized gains/losses on investments
- Accrue investment management fees
- Record amortization of prepaid expenses
- Record fund transfers as appropriate
- Maintain Travel Program ledgers and logs and perform reconciliations as necessary
- Maintain Special Events Program ledgers and logs and perform reconciliations as needed
- Process credit card receipts
- As assigned, review financial documents for accuracy and resolve any accounting discrepancies, inconsistencies, and errors in an accurate and timely manner
- Assist with indirect cost allocation reports for a funding source and government reports
- Assist in the preparation for and the conduct of internal and external audits
- Assist in the production of accurate financial records and reports.
- Attend all meetings and training related to the maintenance/revision of systems as needed
- Assist in Accounts Payable: Input and check requests processing and printing—set up new vendors/accounts as needed.
- May assist with bank reconciliations.
- May assist with maintaining the general ledger and preparing account reconciliations.
- Assist with the preparation of journal entries, monthly status reports, and closings
- Analyze accounting records
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Follow established policies and procedures, laws, rules, and regulations
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Due to changing program demands, funding source expectations, and/or changes in agency policy, as assigned, all staff may be expected to perform other duties.
IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- BA in Accounting (Required)
- CPA and/or MBA preferred
Experience
- Minimum two to five years in accounting; nonprofit accounting preferred.
- Must demonstrate an understanding of current nonprofit fiscal best practices, including indirect cost allocation and cash match methods,
- Knowledge of fund accounting & fund accounting software
- Working knowledge of Excel and Outlook
- Paycom knowledge preferred
Skills
- Strong knowledge of Excel and Outlook
- Aptitude for detail and highly organized
V. CONSTRAINTS
WISE & Healthy Aging is funded through a number of government contracts and public fundraising. The continuance of all administrative positions depends on the organization’s ability to maintain sufficient funding to support all positions.
VI. WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is housed in the corporate office of WISE & Healthy Aging in Santa Monica, California.
