The Safety Specialist is responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and maintaining compliance with all regulations for our manufacturing locations. The position will be the primary lead in the plant's health and safety programs reporting directly to the Health and Safety Manager. Additional responsibilities of the position include supporting the plant's environmental program as well as supervising support staff in implementing safety and environmental policies and programs.

Qualified candidate will have experience of working within a manufacturing/production plant (continuous operation preferred)a safety program.

Day To Day Responsibilities

  • Develop and support plant health and safety initiatives and safety culture.
  • Develop and administer training, including new employee orientation.
  • Lead and promote a team-based health and safety culture that embraces worker involvement and participation.
  • Lead efforts to create employee-led safety teams and initiatives.
  • Apply case management skills to injuries, track trends, and adopt corrective actions needed to prevent injuries and minimize employees' time away from work.
  • Ensure all process additions and changes comply with all JM HS standards.
  • Ensure HS metrics and reports are completed and communicated in a timely manner.
  • Familiar with workman's compensation protocol
  • Actively participate on the Plant's Safety Committees.
  • Develop relationships with health care providers and public safety departments (fire department, emergency response, hospital etc.)
  • Implement Behavioral Based Safety management.
  • Responsible for the OSHA 300 Log, Emergency Preparedness, Injury Case Management, Safety Training, online Safety Training (Pure Safety), Industrial Hygiene, and Hazard Identification and control.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring To The Team

  • Bachelor's degree OR a minimum of 4 years work experience in health and safety in a manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory standards and ability to work with respective outside agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of behavior-based safety including general principles, audit process, root cause analysis, incentives, and accountability.
  • Solid knowledge and experience in Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous process improvement methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and conduct training.
  • Ability to work well with a production workforce and senior leadership.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to and including 50 pounds.
  • Work environment is typical of a manufacturing facility (may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.).
