As a Pet Care Kennel Tech, you will have the opportunity to create meaningful relationships with the dogs and pet parents in our community. You are able to gain knowledge of dog health and behavior to put pet parents at ease, to teach the dogs the skills they need to interact appropriately with their surroundings, and to help us provide a positive and safe environment for our dogs to engage with one another for off-leash play.
We are looking for applicants who have previous experience in dog handling or similar work. As a member of our team, you will work 25-35 hours, Monday through Sunday, with at least two days off. We are willing to work with our team to find a shift to fit your availability between the hours of 6:45 am to 6 pm.
Your top priority is to keep the animals as safe and comfortable as possible. while under your care. To do this, you must be able to be comfortable talking to customers, pushing sale on products and services, be personable and friendly. Below is the main list on this job description.
- Watch and evaluate, reacting as needed, dog body language, pack dynamic and play styles
- Manage non-aggressive and non-barking playgroups
- Teach the dogs how to interact with others by monitoring play and correcting inappropriate behaviors in a consistent way
- Guide the dogs through the play areas using techniques that ensure basic manners
- Communicate compassionately with pet parents
- Give basic first aid to dogs, yourself or other co-workers as needed
- Communicate observations about the dogs' actions and behaviors to your co-workers and Manager
- Examine and observe animals to look for any signs of illness, disease, or injury
- Provide treatment to sick or injured animals, or contact veterinarians to secure treatment
- Mix food, liquid formulas, medications, or food supplements according to the instructions, prescriptions, and your knowledge of animal species
- Clean up dog messes and kennels when required, including feces
- Clean, maintain and sanitize all pet enclosures, exercise yards, and common areas
- Assist our office assistant in daily operating activities, such as placing calls for follow-ups and reaching out to prospective clients, booking appointments, and minor data entry.
Requirements:
- High school diploma (working toward higher education is a plus)
- Must pass a background check
- Some dog handling skills, doggy daycare or boarding background preferred
- Knowledge of general dog behavioral cues, indicators, and health issues to watch for
- Able to use highly concentrated cleaning supplies
- Must not be allergic to or afraid of cats or dogs
