Associate Head Coach, Cross Country and Track & Field

Job Description:

Wittenberg University is seeking applications for an Associate Head Coach for the Cross Country and Track & Field programs. This individual will assist the head coach in leading all aspects of an NCAA Division III program. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt-level position reporting to the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

• Coach and mentor distance running athletes in Cross Country and Track and Field.
• Assist the Director with recruiting, academic oversight, fundraising, social media, organizing and managing high school events, and coordinating camps and clinics.
• Maintain knowledge and understanding of NCAA, Conference and University rules, policies and procedures.
• Assist Director in managing and coaching the Track and Field/ Cross Country Program as instructed by Director.
• Assist Director in recruiting, and managing a full, robust and balanced Track and Field/Cross Country roster.
• Maintain a competitive team versus conference competition and aspire to be competitive nationally.
• Maintain a professional relationship with student athletes, co-coaches and all university personnel.
• Continue to study and implement current coaching philosophies and techniques.
• Assist director with administrative duties as assigned.
• Assist Director in coaching and supervising of the student athletes, the recruiting process and the overall operation of the Track and Field/Cross Country program.
• Work to and be pro-active in reducing the likelihood of athletic related injury or the aggravation of such injuries during practice. Have an understanding and be knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and proper prevention measures. Direct appropriate pre-season training session and pre-contest preparations and warm-ups.
• Assist the Director in developing a competent and effective coaching staff.
• Assist in program and university fund raising endeavors.
• Assist the Director in the management of the program's budget.
• Contribute to the overall success of the university's athletic department.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned such as special projects, programs, developmental activities, etc.

Requirements:

For this position, we require that candidates have a bachelor's degree and at least 3 - 5 years of previous collegiate coaching experience with the post position. Strong knowledge and coaching ability of middle distance and distance event groups to improve the performance of these student athletes. Candidates must possess excellent organizational and communication skills, be able to interact effectively and appropriately with student-athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, peers, community members, and administrators. Knowledge in the following areas is preferred: Microsoft Office, athletic video and performance review software (i.e. Hudl, Synergy), social media platforms, and recruiting software (i.e. Frontrush).

Must be able to transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to communicate effectively with coaches and student athletes. Must be able to traverse stairs. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time (up to 50% of work day). climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for long periods of time. Exposure to outside weather and extreme temperatures is occasionally required.

Travel is required as well as some evening, night, and weekend work.

A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures. If license is from out of state, successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Ohio driver's license within 30 days of hire date.
