Job Description
The Westchester Medical Center is looking for a Section Chief of Kidney Transplant. This role will be filled by an Abdominal Transplant surgeon (MD or DO), board certified by the American Board of Surgery (or equivalent). The individual will have received surgical training sufficient to meet the primary surgeon requirements outlined in the UNOS/OPTN bylaws, including the criteria for open and laparoscopic retrieval of living donor kidneys. The candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to research and education. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential. Experience in the selection, surgical, and post- surgical management of living donor patients is essential.
Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Director of Surgery and Vice President of the service line, the Section Chief will be responsible for planning, organizing, conducting and directing the Kidney Transplant Program. He/she will devote substantial time to administering the transplant program. Clinical activities will include such activities as: organ recovery, including living donor recovery; organ transplantation; daily rounding; overseeing weekly multidisciplinary transplant evaluations, selection meetings and QAPI activities; teaching residents and training the inpatient nursing staff, transplant coordinators and other members of the transplant team. Administrative responsibilities will include managing coverage of the service, reviewing and updating policies and procedures, physician recruitment and outreach efforts. Serving as the UNOS designated Primary Surgeon, the Section Chief will ensure communication with OPTN, OPO, UNOS, CMS and Department of Health, as necessary. Qualifications: The candidate should be an Abdominal Transplant Surgeon with significant experience performing kidney, and kidney living donor surgeries. Ideally, the candidate should also be trained and capable of performing liver transplant surgery. Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills are essential.
