BROAD FUNCTION:

WMHT also houses the largest television studio between New York City and Montreal. The station’s production services for clients help sustain our mission-based work. Our production services business attracts clients from across the country including PBS, APT, feature films, national public and commercial media producers, Canada based producers and partnerships with New York State.
WMHT seeks a Production Manager to sustain and grow our production services department while managing the broadcast operation of our studio and field production equipment for internal station use.
The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of the technical aspects of broadcast television production, including studio lighting, audio, directing and camera operation. The Production Manager also has unquestionable business ethics and is familiar with budgets, invoicing and project management. This position works closely with WMHT engineering staff to maintain and replace broadcast equipment as needed.
This position is public facing. The Production Manager develops and maintains relationships with clients and develops a roster of freelance positions that can work with station staff, as needed, to run the production services department.
The Production Manager position manages the Videographer, Editor and Production Specialist staff positions at WMHT. The Production Manager is also a leader in internal professional development and helps station producers develop technical skills in editing, shooting and lighting. This position helps allocate and manage the station’s equipment needs with production calendars, equipment maintenance and usage across projects. The Production Manager contributes to a station workplace culture that is adaptable to changing trends in content creation and maintains a positive, collaborative work environment.
SPECIFIC OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly manage production staff, allocating station resources.
Build and sustain Production Services for clients.
Maintain and facilitate internal studio production needs.
Work collaboratively to improve communication related to project management.
Work with engineering to maintain and operate station’s production and studio equipment.
Provide leadership for internal professional development
Edit, shoot, direct, light and build sets as needed to meet the needs of production services clients and internal projects
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads production staff and maintain and allocate station resources to create content for all WMHT platforms
Assists in station-wide projects, works collaboratively to achieve the highest quality finished product
Maintains working knowledge of the public media system, attends training sessions as assigned and helps coordinate professional development opportunities for producers and technical staff.
A willingness to adapt as needed to meet the changing demands of artistic and technical content creation.
Carries out related duties as assigned.
Adheres to integrity standards set by the company
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, education, marketing, related field, or equivalent work experience
Technical experience maintaining and operating broadcast equipment.
Experience lighting, set design and management of a television studio.
Technical and creative knowledge of video editing, Premiere Pro preferred.
Field and Studio camera experience required
Commitment to the mission and goals of public broadcasting
Strong commitment to excellence; ability to work successfully either independently or as a team member
Ability to maintain a flexible schedule
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work cooperatively with people at all levels in the organization and with a wide variety of people in the community
A valid New York State driver’s license and good driving record is required for all WMHT positions
Yearly salary range - $88,000 - $98,000
