About Your Opportunity:
Attention rising juniors and seniors, Wohlsen Construction Company is looking to fill our Estimating Intern position for our internship program during the summer of 2021 in the following regions: Central PA (Lancaster and Harrisburg), Delaware Valley (Wilmington, DE and Berwyn, PA. The Estimating Intern is primarily responsible for pulling the necessary components of a project together and establishing, in an accurate manner, the anticipated cost of a project.

How You’ll Contribute:
- You will review drawings and specifications to determine quantities and calculate pricing. You will review drawings and specifications for assigned portions of Preconstruction Projects to calculate budgets from schematic through final construction documents.
- You will communicate, solicits, and works with sub-contractors in trades to obtain pricing for projects.
- Determine quantities of materials in trades by using estimating department software: Quantity Take off, Timberline.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess the conditions of the site or existing building. You will also attend kick-off meetings with Estimators, Project Managers, and Superintendents.
- Solicits and receives subcontractor bids, reviewing for scopes of work and pricing for completeness.
- Communicate with bidders for final overview and assures completeness of bid before inclusion in an estimate, bid or guaranteed maximum price (GMP).
- Communicate with team members, bid captains, estimating manager and others to convene scopes, pricing, construction details, etc.
- You will support the team with presentations to owners and architect.
- You will help with purchasing/buying of subcontractors and suppliers to perform work.
- Develop an understanding for various building construction types including structural systems, building skin and exteriors systems, various finishes, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
- Develop and/or improves the ability to understand different trades required to estimate and construct a building.
- Improve the ability to understand the scopes of work and work between scopes.
- Visits active construction sites to help with costing of projects.
Intern Qualifications
- Working towards a degree in Construction Technology, Engineering or other related discipline, or related experience in the construction industry.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software systems particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, spelling, and grammar for creating daily correspondence and standard documents pertaining to the job.
- Have a valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to regional offices to support local estimating projects.
Physical Requirements
In a normal day, this position requires little to no standing or walking. In a normal day, the employee must be able to sit for 7 hours. In a normal day, the employee must be able to drive 1-4 hours. Employee must be able to lift/carry up to 10 lbs. maximum; occasionally carry small objects. In this position, employee occasionally (0-33%) must be able to bend at waist, squat the knees, climb (including ladders), reach above shoulders, kneel, crawl, use feet (foot controls), and/or work at heights above 6 feet.
