Job Title: Community Engagement Organizer 35_ hours a week, $25 an hour, Full Time_

Summary: Long Island United to Transform Policing & Community Safety (LI United) seeks highly-motivated and outgoing individuals to join our team! LI United is a Black-led, community-based police reform coalition of the Women’s Diversity Network (WDN) formed in June 2020 after the murder of George Floyd. Its mission is to transform public safety by divesting from policing and investing in our communities. We seek a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Community Engagement Coordinator. This role will be a crucial part in advancing our organization's mission of promoting police reform and fostering strong community connections. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills to efficiently manage administrative tasks, engage with community members, and coordinate various initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Administrative Duties:
  • Coordinate logistics for coalition/steering/public events and meetings including scheduling, emailing, agenda preparation, and minute-taking.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of administrative processes to improve overall efficiency.

Community Engagement:

  • Act as a liaison between the organization and the community, establishing and maintaining positive relationships.
  • Attend community events, meetings, and gatherings to listen to concerns and gather feedback.
  • Collaborate with community members and leaders to understand their needs and incorporate them into the organization's initiatives.
  • Deliver engaging and informative presentations to various audiences, including community members, stakeholders, and other organizations.
  • Running our Social Media Platforms, updating our website, and designing our graphics via Canva.

Canvassing Program:

  • Design and implement a community canvassing program to raise awareness about police reform initiatives.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to engage in canvassing activities, ensuring they are well-prepared and motivated.
  • Participate in canvassing activities.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of the canvassing program and make necessary adjustments for continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Able to organize a community event that includes planning, implementation, and facilitation.
  • Canvassing experience is recommended but not required.
  • Supervisory or management experience is recommended but not required.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the capacity to engage with diverse audiences.
  • Experience in community engagement, outreach, or related fields is preferred.
  • Knowledge of police reform issues and an understanding of community dynamics is an advantage.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong leadership qualities.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software (e.g., Google Apps) and familiarity with relevant digital tools and platforms.
