Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently seeking a Senior Architect to join our Mining & Minerals team in Oakville, Ontario for a temporary position. The Architect will apply extensive and comprehensive knowledge architectural principles and practices to the organization’s products and services. The successful candidate will plan, schedule and assign/supervise or conduct broad and/or technically complex assignments requiring judgment, independent evaluation, selection and significant adaptation and deviation from standard techniques and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Production of architectural layouts, plant design and sketches using E3D/Microstation V8, AutoCAD, 2-D and 3-D tools for mining project including extracting drawings from a 3-D model
- Prepares site plans, floor plans, building elevations, reflected ceiling plans, cross sections, wall sections, construction details, and door and room finish schedules using Architecture software.
- Prepares presentation drawings as required for design-build projects.
- Provides engineers with preliminary foundation plans, foundation detail drawings and structural steel layout drawings.
- Develop architectural construction and finishing material specifications
- Locate all doors, windows, lighting fixtures and other building architectural materials
- Prepare and review drawings and designs to ensure standards of quality and accuracy are met including details
- Prepare MTOs, and architectural material specifications
- Read, understand, and comment on manufacturer drawings and specifications
- Work and collaborate with other discipline team
- Work in conjunction with the engineers, working from the engineer's or architect’s directions
- Creating CAD drawings as per customer rules and presentation requirements
- Coordinate with all disciplines on requirements for assigned area
- Coordinate with all disciplines on routing and space allotment
- Coordinate with other offices/companies at interfaces between design areas
- Review specifications and vendor documentation for associated material and equipment
Skills / Qualifications
- Technical college graduate with North American experience in mining and mineral or similar industries
- 10 - 15 years' design experience, preferably in the consulting industry, (preference will be given to those candidate with experience in Mineral Mining projects)
- Firm understanding of building systems, construction procedures, NBC, OBC, IBC, City By-laws and/or Regulations as required.
- Knowledge of NFPA regulations
- Experience in industrial plant design in 3D environment
- Proficiency in the use of 3-D modeling platforms.
- Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal and motivational skills to work well within a team environment
- Candidate must demonstrate the ability to development relationships and conduct presentations internally and externally.
- Candidate must demonstrate strong technical skills and apply them effectively
- Experience with 3D Design tools such as Microstation, E3D, PDMS, Navisworks, Smart Plant Reviewer, Laser scan tools, Quanta point, Leica Geosystems TruView
- A good understanding related to other discipline (such as Civil, Structural, Architectural, Piping, Building Services, Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls) design, equipment and layout requirements
- Authorization to work lawfully in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
