Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is recruiting a new graduate with a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering to work as an Engineer for Wood's Power Engineering Department. Wood is a full service engineering and construction company with a main office in the Atlanta area, servicing the process and power industry.
Wood’s Power Engineering group has a legacy of industrial, pulp and paper, and utility power projects that goes back over 50 years. The group performs studies, cycle analysis, and detailed design of power plants ranging from chemical recovery and biomass boilers in the pulp and paper industry, gas turbines as part of simple and combined cycle plants, to thermal utility and industrial plants consisting of boilers of a wide variety of types and fuels. Projects also included power plant air pollution control systems including FGD and SCR systems, as well as water treatment and ash management.
Projects over the years have included some of the leading edge technologies, such as solar thermal, geothermal, wind, renewable fuels, the latest gas turbines and steam turbines, bubbling fluidized bed boilers, and circulating fluidized bed boilers.
Candidate should have a strong background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics. Electives or graduate level courses in power plant design, a co-op job working at utility, pulp and paper, or industrial power plants and/or a CAD background is desirable.
The engineer’s role would include the preparation of specifications, system design, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s), cycle analysis, and coordinating design with other disciplines.
A training system is in place that would have the engineer work in various departments to develop familiarity with the company’s work and design process.
Skills / Qualifications
- 0-3 years of intern or co-op experience desirable.
- Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering. Minmum 3.0 GPA.
- EIT certificate is a plus
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required
Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required.
