Swim Team Head Coach Job Description -Seasonal P/T

GENERAL PURPOSE

Provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for swim team participants. Supervise and mentor both assistant and junior assistant swim coaches. Supervise and teach the swimmers, organizes practice sessions, completes swim meet line-ups, and maintains communication with management, coaching staff, parents and league coaches. Expected to attend all swim meets and team functions throughout the season.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Motivate and encourage all swimmers.

2. Organizes and implements daily workouts/exercises for group practices; modify workouts based on team progress. Coordinates practices with coaching staff.

3. Differentiate workouts based on abilities of all swimmers in different lanes.

4. Correct swimmers’ techniques as needed during practices to continuously improve children’s swim abilities throughout season.

5. Record and track daily swim practice attendance.

6. Maintain all practice/meet equipment on a daily basis—kickboards, lock equipment boxes, etc.

7. Responsible for completing all line-ups for dual meets and league meet in a timely manner.

8. Responsible for completing entries for dual, league and county meets. Have all sheets and cards prepared for both home and away meets in a timely manner.

9. Organize and prepare swimmers for their upcoming race event/lane throughout all meets.

10. Ensure open and timely communication with swimmers and parents.

11. Works openly and communicates with swim team board members.

12. Works openly and communicates with swim team coaching staff.

13. Assists in submitting a list of award winners at the end of season party.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 5 years of experience as a competitive swimmer.

2. 4 years swim coaching preferred.

3. Lifeguard Certification, First Aid/CPR/AED Certified.

4. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of swim skills and have a strong foundation in stroke mechanics.

5. Ability to swim, demonstrate and teach all stroke techniques (freestyle, breast, butterfly, back).

6. Ability to model correct stroke technique both in and out of the water to swimmers of all ability levels.

7. Ability to instruct and observe swim participants in proper stroke techniques.

8. Strong communications skills with both swimmers and parents.

9. Strong organizational skills to manage a roster of approximately 60 swimmers.

10. Strong interpersonal skills – ability to communicate and work with children of all ages.

11. An enthusiastic, dynamic presence who demonstrates sports-like behavior.

SUMMER SEASON SWIM TEAM (Mid-June-Early August)

This is a part-time position that includes approximately 17-22 hours per week of evening swim practice and meets (Monday-Friday), plus additional non-pool time for creating workouts and handling administrative details for swim meets. It is essential to be present at all team swim meets and both daily practices. Must be available evenings between 4-8pm. Must have transportation to travel to swim meets at other pools in Bergen County. Included in the season is the NJPMA Championship (County Meet) which runs the first week of August.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $1,000.00 - $1,200.00 per month
