Position Overview
Responsible for assisting the lead teacher with classroom responsibilities and ensuring the Academy program is a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment for each child. Each child’s self-esteem shall be enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected through daily interactions and positive learning experiences. The Assistant Teacher will provide ongoing personal contact, meaningful learning activities, supervision, and immediate care as needed to protect children’s well-being.
Qualifications
- Preferred Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education and current teaching license
- Preferred previous experience in an early childhood or elementary education classroom setting
- Proficient in providing quality care to a variety of aged children
- Ability to take direction for Lead Teacher of each classroom
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Ability to keep current information on the registry as well as inservice information
- Subscribe to and affirm the Statement of Faith and Covenant of Wooddale Church

Responsibilities*
- Ability to be to work on time, assist in classroom set-up, creative a positive environment with a positive attitude
- Ability to assist with a classroom of early childhood children (in ratio)
- Ability to be flexible, positive and multi-task in the classroom environment
- Meet qualifications stated by the Department of Human Services for an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher
- Ability to have a clear understanding of the Core Knowledge Sequence Curriculum and follow the direction of the Curriculum Coordinator
- Assist in the planning, writing and the implementation of developmentally appropriate lesson plans
- Maintain student files and continue to keep them up to date
- Establish and implement positive, appropriate and consistent boundaries with children.
- Sets up and takes down classroom as needed, keeping a tidy, interesting area at all times
- Returns materials in a timely respectful, organized manner
- Maintains classroom budget
- Maintains positive, respectful relationships with parents and partners together in their child’s educational development.
- Assists in the needs of the teacher for 3 annual conferences throughout the school year (including a listening conference prior to the start of school)
- Physical Requirements: Lift up to 40 pounds, repetitive bending, stretching and stooping, climb up and down stairs, have mobility required to ensure the safety of children, work with children on the floor, work outdoors, perform light cleaning

Relationships*
- Reports directly to your Lead Teacher, Wooddale Academy Assistant Director and Site Director
- Coordinates and cooperates with other church staff and departments as needed
