Responsible for managing risk of the asset side of the balance sheet, achieving the best risk-adjusted rate of return while ensuring asset selection matches WoodmenLifes liabilities. Offers prudent risk management, responsible for the design and implementation of investment policy within the parameters of the overall WoodmenLife Strategic Plan. Directs the management of assets consisting of existing investments (bonds, mortgage loans, real estate, stocks, derivatives and alternative investments) and the funds generated from premium income as well as income, amortization, maturities and sales of existing investments.

This role is responsible for directing the management of assets consisting of existing investments (bonds, mortgage loans, real estate, stocks, derivatives and alternative investments) and the funds generated from premium income as well as income, amortization, maturities and sales of existing investments. Directs the investment of these funds in a prudent manner to produce the highest rate of return within the risk parameters as set forth in the Investment Policy Statement. Prepares the Investment Division Policy Statement and Strategy for approval by the Investment Committee and National Board of Directors, in addition to the Derivative Use Plan as required by the New York Insurance Department. Annually prepares the Investment Committee Report to the National Board of Directors summarizing the Organizations investment performance. Directs the acquisition of investments to optimally match those assets to insurance and annuity contract liabilities. Accomplishment of this objective will require collaboration with the Actuarial division and working with modeling software to ensure adequate liquidity and surplus levels under various interest rate and business surrender scenarios. Keeps abreast of global financial markets as well as economic, legislative and industry developments, as well as National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and rating agency requirements. Makes contacts with senior management of major corporations, investment officers of financial institutions and representatives of the banking community. Keeps up to date with major corporate credit exposures, and financial statements of many insurance companies. Must have working knowledge of the Nebraska Insurance Statutes and the rules and regulations of the NAIC. Responsible for directing and managing all persons and operations necessary for conducting the business of the Investment Division. Directs the cash flow analysis (company-wide) to establish the timing of the purchase of short-term and long-term investments. Serves as Investment Division contact for the A.M. Best rating agency. Directs and coordinates the activities of the investment division team; guides staff selection, professional development and ongoing motivation. Provides support and advice to the in-house broker/dealer Woodmen Financial Services, and assistance with WoodmenLifes Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit plans, as well as assessing the viability of potential third party vendors.

Qualifications
- Bachelors degree and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation required.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience managing insurance company assets; more specifically bond portfolios.
- Proven experience leading and motivating team members, as well as contributing to their learning and development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degrees preferred.
- More than 10 years of experience with insurance company asset management including not only bond portfolios, but some experience with common stock portfolios, derivatives, and commercial real estate investments.
- Certified Mortgage Banker designation (CMB) would be a plus, as would FINRA Series 7, 24, and 63.
