Job Summary:
Principal Responsibilities:
The Deputy Director is responsible for growth of new and selected initiatives to ensure that the JCC continues to meet its potential for growth and sustainability. These main portfolios include:
· Membership and membership marketing: expanding the JCC’s reach to the greater Worcester community through effective paid and word of mouth marketing strategies, growing JCC membership by twenty percent per year over the next two years; target will likely be 1,000 members.
· Safety and security and emergency response: updating policies and procedures and maintaining and hosting regular and timely departmental trainings and reviews of security and emergency protocols and response.
· Building utilization: assess seasonal utilization, particularly of underutilized classrooms and spaces at the JCC, and market them for rental and/or co-develop innovative expansion ideas and initiatives to fill these spaces.
· Capital fundraising campaigns: oversee the day to day, monthly quarterly and annual campaign research, communications, grant writing, target development and solicitation program to ensure success with meeting Board determined campaign targets; target estimate is $ 1 million over 3 years.
· Supervise Special Projects/ Fund Development Manager with responsibility to raise annual targets support program and program scholarship needs designated in annual operating budget.
· Collaborate with the Payroll/ Benefits Manager to create and oversee ongoing programs for onboarding and offboard staff and regular staff engagement and staff appreciation and work related to ongoing staff community building and cohesion. Co-create and help deliver orientation and fundraising trainings annually for the Board of Directors and relevant committees. Help various departments recruit and retain key staff.
Essential functions:
- Assume management responsibility for annual membership growth targets; (current targets include meeting or exceeding February 2020 membership unit counts by July 2024;)
- Supervise and support Membership Director, Special Projects, Fundraising and Communication staff members; co-create goals for Fundraising, Community Engagement, Marketing and Communications;
- Prioritize and meet deadlines and targets for the Capital Campaign in conjunction with the Capital Campaign Committee and Executive Director;
- Expand social media, print and word of mouth marketing and coordinate regular direct outreach meetings and interactions by staff, board and committee members that engage community members and organization in membership and program growth;
- Help foster and maintain a customer service philosophy in membership; respond to member complaints and resolve difficult or controversial issues; support and reinforce an employee culture of customer service;
- Develop systems to monitor and evaluate service efficacy and member satisfaction; respond effectively to opportunities for improvement;
- Research new trends; develop programs and services to keep the JCC competitive within the industry, and to meet the evolving needs of the community;
- Set targets with the Executive Director for greater building utilization and program innovation and co-create these internal expansions – whether rental of spaces or new service delivery in those spaces;
- Support the development of a variety of activities, presentations, exhibits and events to promote the JCC and get out, get these out and other staff out in the community very regularly;
- Assist in developing and distributing emergency policies and procedures;
- Develop an emergency protocols staff chain of command calendar; divide responsibilities amongst a short list of trained individuals; provide or coordinate guests and consultants to provides quarterly trainings for department and department managers;
- Participate in the development of the annual budget for areas of responsibility.
- Manage expenditures within identified budget limits for areas of responsibility; review financial reports; provide information to the finance department as requested;
- Prepare and present verbal and written reports to the JCC Board, community groups, staff and others. Prepare correspondence as needed;
- Coordinate onboard, offboarding, staff appreciation and community building with Department heads, the Payroll/ Benefits Manager and the Executive Director;
- Assist the Executive Director and Board committee with development an oversight of Diversity Equity and Inclusion goals and initiatives and the JCC strategic plan.
- Assist the various Departments and staff supervisors with recruitment and hiring for key positions.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.
Minimum Expectations and Qualifications:
The right candidate for this position will have demonstrated success as a fundraiser and community builder, excellent organizational and collaboration skills, as well as a desire work for the betterment of the entire JCC community and a proven commitment to the mission of the JCC and Jewish communal work as part of it.
Required education and experience:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Senior level management experience with a verifiable track record of growth within that sphere of work, ideally in a non-profit setting.
- Supervisory experience with a track record of developing and maintaining a cohesive, loyal team; strong conflict resolution skills;
- Five years of senior level fundraising experience and a commitment to formal continued professional development in capital and operating fund development;
- Marketing experience and a commitment to professional development and relevant course work and learning in marketing tools, strategies and techniques;
- Critical thinking and analytical skills, with a proven ability to effectively solve problems.
- Competence with modern office equipment including personal computers, Microsoft Office Software, Fundraising software and relevant applications;
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing;
- An ability and willingness to have a flexible schedule as needed, including work early mornings, evenings and weekends.
Preferred education and experience:
- Relevant experience in a comparable organization, facility or community center is desirable.
Hours and Reporting Structure
· 35 to 40 hours per week
· Reports to the Executive Director
Salary Commensurate with Experience

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
