The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking a dynamic candidates to serve as Human Services Coordinators (HSC). The selected applicants will perform a pivotal role in supporting individuals and families in need, promoting the philosophy of recovery and person-centered choices. The HSC serves as an advocate, providing assessment, outreach, and service coordination, while fostering a supportive and respectful relationship with the persons served. This position requires independent decision-making and the ability to establish collaborative relationships with other agencies and service providers in a statewide community.

As a trusted member of the team, the HSC complies with HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards to safeguard protected health information. Furthermore, the HSC monitors vendor programs to ensure safety, sanitation, and alignment with consumer needs, promptly reporting any relevant issues. Attendance and active participation in meetings, trainings, and continuing education courses further enhance the HSC's knowledge and understanding of the mental health field.

    • (1) 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM with Sunday/Monday as days off


Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

    • Provide person-centered advocacy, outreach, and service coordination, promoting the philosophy of recovery and empowering individuals.
    • Collect and assess relevant information from service providers to formulate comprehensive clinical assessments of persons served.
    • Educate and support individuals and their families, fostering positive relationships and facilitating access to necessary services.
    • Assist individuals in identifying optimal community living arrangements and coordinate individual service planning.
    • Utilize databases to accurately enter demographic, service tracking, and billing information, adhering to established timelines and regulations.
    • Advocate and negotiate with school systems, community agencies, and state entities to ensure individuals' needs are met.
    • Provide referral coordination, assisting individuals in accessing programs and services while guiding them through necessary procedures.
    • Maintain accurate records, including progress notes, meeting minutes, and updates, ensuring completeness and confidentiality.
    • Assess individuals' histories, risks, and multicultural and linguistic needs to provide tailored support.
    • Collaborate with supervisors to plan and develop a coordinated community support system.
    • Attend supervision meetings, training sessions, and conferences to enhance skills and stay updated in the mental health field.
    • Monitor vendor programs, ensuring safety, sanitation, and alignment with consumer needs, reporting any relevant issues promptly.


Required Qualifications:

    • Skilled in cultivating supportive and meaningful relationships with consumers currently receiving care in an inpatient psychiatric unit.
    • Familiarity with consumer needs and characteristics associated with the target population.
    • Proficient in utilizing local community resources and effectively collaborating with agency partners.
    • Strong capability in assessing consumer needs and crafting comprehensive service plans.
    • Demonstrated expertise in counseling strategies and techniques.
    • Ability to identify clinical pathology in consumers and promptly alerting supervisor.
    • Effective advocacy skills in representing and championing the rights and interests of consumers.
    • Knowledgeable in employing conflict-resolution strategies to address and resolve challenges.


Preferred Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience working in a human services, social services, or mental health settings.
    • Knowledge of recovery-oriented practices and person-centered approaches.
    • Strong assessment and clinical skills, with the ability to gather and analyze information effectively.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for building relationships and conveying information to diverse individuals and families.
    • Experience in coordinating and facilitating meetings, including Individualized Service Plan (ISP) meetings.
    • Proficiency in using databases and technology for accurate data entry and tracking.
    • Advocacy and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate with schools, agencies, and other stakeholders.
    • Cultural competence and sensitivity to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, understanding their unique needs and challenges.
    • Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Teams, and Outlook.
    • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.
    • Prior experience working with the adolescent population.

About Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH):
Located on over 20 acres in Worcester, Massachusetts, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is part of an integrated network of effective, efficient, and culturally competent mental health services. It provides intermediate and long-term inpatient care for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who live in Massachusetts, as well as individuals requiring specialized court ordered evaluations.

WRCH provides inpatient services to 290 adults and 30 adolescents, inclusive of a Deaf Inpatient Mental Health Service program for 10 patients.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Applicants must have (A) at least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time, professional experience in human services work or social work or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required (A) experience.

Based on assignment, travel may be required. Incumbents who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment.

Based on assignment as Qualified Intellectual Disabled Professionals, within the Department of Developmental Services, a Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, education of the physically or emotionally handicapped, education of the multiple handicapped, education of the learning disabled, human services, rehabilitation, rehabilitation counseling, nursing, recreation therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, physical education or other a related field is required.

Title 101 CMR 23.00 (“Regulation”) requires certain agency staff to have received the COVID-19 vaccination and Influenza vaccination, or have taken required mitigation measures, to prevent viral infection and transmission in State Hospitals and State Congregate Care Facilities.
