ABOUT THE ROLE

The Business Development Manager is part of a dynamic and growing team of professionals to expand World Council’s work in financial services innovation, and to align sales/business development strategies, resources, activities, and initiatives to maximize the organization’s social impact, relevance, growth strategy and purpose. WOCCU’s business development team drives efforts to be proactive, creative, and collaborative with its member credit union partners, youth organizations and women’s leadership network, to align with financial industry policy shifts and market needs and drive more equitable distribution of wealth and the democratization of financial inclusion that member-owned, member-controlled financial cooperatives represent.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead bids and proposal development for institutional and private donors
  • Lead business capture efforts including drafting scope of work, identifying inhouse and external consultant expertise, writers, pricing analysts, and other resource requirements.
  • Draft relevant technical proposal sections including technical approach, management, corporate capabilities, etc.
  • Coordinate and sync cost and technical proposal submissions.
  • Draft scopes of work for proposal leadership positions including chief of party, deputy chief of party, etc. Work with recruiters on short-listing and deciding on candidates for positions.
  • Identify and select consultants to act in various technical and other proposal development support roles.
  • Works closely across WOCCU business lines in international programs, advocacy, education, membership, and engagement to identify funders and partners and help manage stakeholder relations with existing and potential partners as well as peer NGOs
  • Lead BD team to acquire new projects from private donors (e.g. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Mastercard, Visa) and bilateral and multilateral agencies (e.g., USAID, World Bank and the UN)
  • Responsible for pipeline tracking and achieving program acquisition goals.
  • Serve as central point of contact for WOCCU’s institutional development partners including WOCCU’s trade association members.
  • Conduct research to identify potential business opportunities, technology partners, and funding sources including gathering country background and technical information required for project proposal preparation, concept papers, pitch decks and white papers.

Communications

  • Work with the communications team in writing marketing material such as background statements, program briefs, website features, podcasts, and social media.
  • Inform WOCCU’s communications strategy for international financial sector development programs

Program Management:

  • When requested, manage small, high-impact projects, including delivering on budget and strategic objective targets; overseeing the contracting of consultants, including but not limited to preparing contract and budget, support and follow up
  • Participate in project and innovation teams, perform research activities and draft specific sections of proposals and concept papers

WHAT WE REQUIRE

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree in international affairs, economics, or related area of study, or equivalent combination of study and experience.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience working in international development firm and proven track record in leading bids and proposal coordination for institutional donors including USAID, other multilateral, and private donors (e.g. foundations or family office).
  • Familiarity with USAID rules & regulations, trends, and operations.
  • Familiarity with financial services industry, economic growth/financial inclusion, and familiarity with credit unions or financial cooperatives preferred.
  • Experience managing staff & programs preferred.
  • Strong stakeholder management, interpersonal communication, collaboration and partnering skills.
  • Applicants must have the legal right to work in the United States on a regular, full-time basis
  • Willingness and availability to travel internationally approximately 10-15% of time
  • Fluency in English required. Second language (Spanish, French, Portuguese) desired. Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to communicate concepts and ideas effectively and proficient grammar and punctuation.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills. Publishing and design software experience is helpful.
