Position: Animal Caregiver

Location: Wright-Way Rescue North Shore Humane Center, 5915 Lincoln Ave, Morton Grove, IL 60053

Schedule:

Mondays, Tuesdays, & Wednesdays: 1st shift, 8 AM - 2 PM / 2nd shift, 2 PM ~ 6:30 PM

Thursdays & Fridays: 1st shift, 8 AM - 2 PM / 2nd shift, 2 PM ~ 8 PM

Saturdays & Sundays: 1st shift, 7 AM - 1 PM / 2nd shift, 1 PM ~ 6:30 PM

Part time and full time positions are available.

Position Summary:
This position plays an integral role in the direct hands-on care of Wright-Way Rescue animals, our Caregivers are responsible for the daily care and cleaning of all animals in the adoption program. This includes: daily feeding, walking, medicating and cleaning of all animal areas (both dogs and cats).

Animal Caregivers must be willing to work closely with the Operations Manager. Caregivers are responsible for the daily cleaning, feeding and exercising of pets housed at the shelter facility. In addition to caring for all of the animals at Wright-Way Rescue, Caregivers are also responsible for ensuring that the shelter facility rooms and property are clean and maintained. This includes: vacuuming, mopping and taking out trash for all kennels and common areas, and other tasks as assigned.

On days when the facility is open to the public, our Caregivers play an active role in the adoption process by introducing pets to potential adopters, answering questions that adopters may have, and connecting with our guests. A high level of customer service is required for this portion of the position.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring the checklist items are done on a daily basis as assigned.
  • Clean animal enclosures according to protocol. Feed, water, and walk as assigned.
  • Ensuring the housing areas are organized and presentable within the time allowed.
  • Understand disease spread within an animal shelter.
  • Constant communication with the Caregiver Supervisor.
  • Prepare Animals for Surgical procedures. Ensure food and/or water is withheld when necessary and proper notice is displayed as requested.
  • Ensure information on health or behavior changes are communicated to the Caregiver Supervisor .
  • Replenish stock of cleaning supplies and consumables daily including cleaning carts.
  • Show pets to potential adopters.
  • Clean and disinfect other/common areas of the shelter as assigned.
  • Be able to answer basic questions that adopters may have during the adoption process.
  • Other duties as requested or needed by supervisors.
  • Participate in staff education

Requirements:

  • Passion for animals and animal welfare
  • High level of customer service
  • Animal Caregivers must be able to work some weekend days and holidays.
  • Animal Caregivers must be able to lift 40 lb and walk/hold large dogs on outdoor walks.
  • Animal Caregivers are expected and relied upon to work the hours scheduled. Due to the nature of our work, excessive absences will not be tolerated.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $14.00 per hour
