WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Environmental Scientist to join the Earth & Environment Team in the Baltimore, Maryland office. This entry-level position provides an opportunity to join a fast-paced team that provides solutions on environmental projects. The work entails a combination of field and office-related activities, with a need to carefully follow instructions, document activities, work as part of a team and requires problem solving and proactive communication.

The work entails a combination of field and office-related activities, with a need to carefully follow instructions, document activities, work as part of a team and requires problem solving and proactive communication.
Your Impact
- Support a variety of engineering and environmental tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills
- Demonstrated some experience in Environment- related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to transportation and other infrastructure projects.
- Assist more experienced staff in broader related activities including field work
- Assist with project research, analyze project data and perform basic calculations.
- Prepare materials for presentations or client meetings
- Perform routine Planning/Environmental functions including document research and field investigations
- Use various types of GIS design software
- Assist with jurisdictional wetland delineation
- Assist with environmental oversight during construction to ensure compliance with permit conditions
- Assist with threatened and endangered species surveys
- Assist with assessment of potential impacts to wetlands and/or protected species
- Support for preparation of applications (e.g., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 404, MD state wetland and stream permits, NPDES, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Coordination and DNR Forest Services, etc.)
- Assist with wetland and stream mitigation monitoring
- Local and/or national travel with possible short-term or long-term assignments at project sites
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Required Qualifications
- 0-1 years of experience working as an Early Career Environmental Scientist Bachelor's in Environmental Science, Wildlife Ecology, Wetland Ecology, Fisheries, Soil Science or a comparable life science field
- Familiarity with Maryland or Virginia wetland ecology, soil ecology, wildlife ecology, and/or botany
- Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance, and record keeping procedures
- Knowledge of basic planning/environmental theories and principles.
- Capable of producing clear and concise written documents
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
- Comfortable with being involved in a workflow that includes field work and completion of reporting tasks for projects in a timely manner
- Capable of working independently and effectively with a team
- Self-motivated, reliable and dedicated individual
- Ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policiesAbility to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Moderate proficiency of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Experience using GIS, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software.
- Familiarity with NEPA and MEPA procedures and requirements
- Local candidates preferred.
- A member of and/or willingness to participate in local professional practice organizations
