WSP is currently initiating a search for an Architect for a design-build rail project out of our New Rochelle, New York field office. The candidate will be part of a dynamic, national professional Project Management/Construction Management (PM/CM) organization, that continues to foster careers, and be involved in a mega project that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. The candidate will closely collaborate with professional and technical staff including project managers, design-build design teams, field engineers, railroad operators, and executive management; and to produce required documents in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will lead a multi-discipline design compliance review process, interact with design teams, regulatory agencies, and oversee implementation of design during the construction phase of a mega rail project.
Your Impact
Job Duties:
- Be a key member of our Project Management Consultant Team.
- Manage multi-disciplinary design compliance review staff and coordinate all comments for compliance with contractual requirements and applicable codes and standards.
- Interact with the design-build team’s executive management and design staff, schedule and lead all design compliance review meetings, and manage all comments to resolution and closure.
- Oversight of design-builder’s on-site performance for compliance with approved designs and for conformance to established project quality control standards.
- Assist in the preparation of field or design changes for changed conditions and/or additional work.
- Assist in the logging and coordination of responses to the design-builder’s design submittals, RFI's, and shop drawings/catalog cuts.
- Lead the coordination with public agencies and/or utility companies to facilitate Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) approvals.
- Ensure permit compliance and coordination with ongoing rail operations.
- Work with the team’s project managers and design-builder to reconcile all technical/design related issues that arise.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Assist WSP’s PM/CM team in business development including teaming arrangements, and participation on future proposals.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or equivalent
- Shall be a Registered Architect in New York State with at least fifteen (10) years’ experience in delivery of complex transit related projects.
- Experience in overseeing design compliance reviews of design-build documents for conformance to contractual requirements and applicable codes and building standards.
- Experience in coordinating multi-discipline technical design reviews and resolving any conflicting comments/issues.
- Shall have contract administration experience in a supervisory capacity of design-build rail transit related projects.
- Experience in field inspections of rail stations and development of punch list of non-conforming items
- Experience in collaborating with municipal transit owners and strong knowledge of local clients and/or agency work (Amtrak, MTA C&D, Metro North Railroad).
- Strong knowledge of local and national building codes, as well as ADA compliance.
- Solid understanding of architectural tools (AutoCAD, REVIT, SketchUp, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail and highly organized.
- Self-starter, able to work independently and able to multi-task.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Expected Salary: $108,500-193,380
