WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Entry Level Landscape Architect for our Pittsburgh, PA office. Be involved in projects with our Federal Planning Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.
The ideal candidate will have 0-1 years of professional experience and an education in landscape architecture. Willingness to work as part of a collaborative team, share innovative solutions, learn on the job, and adapt to the challenges of each project is a must. An ideal candidate will be interested in a wide range of project scales, as efforts could focus on a single facility, site, campus, community, state, national or global scale.
Takes part in providing local technical assistance for capturing, modeling, and analyzing work site information, geographical resources, and spatial and tabular data to inform and create plans for reuse or future development that accounts for compliance, economic, and environmental impact. Tasks may include providing support under general supervision with the preparation of segments of general plans, site-specific/master plans, installation standard updates, stakeholder involvement, and regulatory compliance for a variety of client projects relating to development, construction, infrastructure, transportation, environment, resiliency, revitalization, and adaptation. Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
Your Impact
• Assist the Federal Planning team with document production, mapping, site planning, and charrette facilitation.
• Participate in charrettes and group exercises under supervision.
• Evaluate technical criteria applicable to each project.
• Assist with graphic and mapping production and presentation material development.
• Assist in preparing and developing master planning documents and technical reports.
• Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and deconflict personal deadline schedules.
• Under general supervision, assist with collecting, identifying, and compiling observational, spatial, operations, and environmental data from multiple matrices for projects, research, and surveys.
• Under direct supervision, assist with preparing general plans, site-specific/master plans, and/or development standards for assigned projects, with a particular emphasis on regulatory compliance.
• Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, demographics, patterns and trends, statistical analysis, and reporting.
• Assist with performing basic professional land/urban planning work to gain further information on a particular problem or issue, verify site characteristics, and/or to assist with planning for future needs affecting land use, development, utilities, infrastructure, construction, and/or transportation to control and guide development and renewal.
• Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, models, infographics, and 3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
• Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation of technical memos, meeting minutes, transmittals, presentations, and other written materials.
• Utilize the latest technologies and techniques in performing studies and analysis of project areas, sites, and any associated physical, urban, economic, community, and political sensitivities.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture.
• 0-1 years of related professional experience.
• Due to project requirements, US Citizenship is required.
• Ability to travel a minimum of 30% of time, including overnight trips.
• Proficiency with Adobe suite, particularly Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil3D.
• Analytical skills, and familiarity with research techniques, local/regional geography, culture, and ecology.
• Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
• Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
• Proficiency with ArcGIS/ArcMap.
• Proficiency with Sketchup or other 3D modelling software.
• Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific discipline.
• A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
