WSP is currently initiating a search for a Mechanical Engineer or Architectural Engineer for our Tempe, AZ office.
Job Summary
WSP USA’s Property & Building's Engineers work on high quality local, regional, as well as high profile national and international projects. You will actively participate in the full project cycle, from the design phase through the final construction close out. We work in close collaboration with the entire project team, ensuring optimal integration of all systems.
Your Impact
As a Consultant, Mechanical or Architectural Engineer you will be responsible for the below listed aspects of projects.
Design:
- Develop drawing and specification documents
- Design automatic temperature control system and specifications
- Design air distribution (supply, return, exhaust) and hydronic systems (chilled water, heating water, etc)
- Design plumbing systems (domestic water, waste, vent, storm, etc.)
Analytics:
- Select major equipment and schedule usage
- Perform cooling and heating load calculations
- Produce high quality technical and professional deliverables for projects and proposals
- Utilize advanced analytical and design techniques to solve technical problems
- Survey and evaluate existing conditions
- Prepare reports
Collaboration:
- Provide guidance to entry level engineers
- Propose creative solutions to complex problems as part of team
- Attend team and or project meetings and interface with internal groups
- Communicate system design decisions to senior quality assurance staff to ensure proper application and adherence to project scope
- Participate in local professional organization (attend meetings/lectures)
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Other duties as required by business needs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- BSME or BSAE degree
- EIT certification
- 3 to 5 years in our industry doing design and construction document development as well as construction administration
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
- Knowledge of relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., Revit and AutoCAD).
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- EIT certification
- Membership and involvement in ASHRAE or other relevant industry organization.
- Working understanding of Quality Control and other continuous improvement processes.
