WSP has a career opportunity for a Senior Hazard Mitigation Specialist with WSP’s highly-regarded Hazard Mitigation and Emergency Management (HM & EM) program in Denver, CO. This individual will work with the team providing a variety of hazard mitigation and emergency management services for federal, state, tribal and local governments as well as other clients primarily in the western and midwestern US.
Your Impact
• Support task orders issued under the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Technical Assistance Program (HMTAP) with a focus on Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant application development and review.
• Support HMTAP program management
• Perform and coordinate on HMA project eligibility reviews, technical feasibility and effectiveness reviews, scope of work and costs estimate development, EHP considerations and BCA analysis, in coordination with FEMA, State, local and tribal communities.
• Provide support to state emergency management program technical support contracts to include HMA grants application development and review, Benefit Cost Analysis, and various programmatic improvements.
• Provide support to a team in the development and update Hazard Mitigation Plans that meet Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000) standards.
• Assist with other emergency management projects and plans as needed including training and exercises.
• Assist with business growth in hazard mitigation and emergency management including strategic marketing and proposal development.
• Occasional travel to client locations nationwide. Approximately 5 - 10 % travel.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
• BS degree in Geography, Planning, Emergency Management, Environmental Science or related field or equivalent experience
• 10 years experience in the hazard mitigation, floodplain management, water resources, or emergency management field
• Experience working in state or FEMA pre and post disaster management preferred, including working knowledge of federal pre- and post-disaster grant programs particularly HMA and BRIC.
• Experience with FEMA Benefit Cost Analysis software.
• Experience with and knowledge of Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Guidance, HMGP Policies, Title 2 CFR, Title 44 CFR, the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief Act, other relevant laws and implementing regulations, as well as HMGP activities that are eligible under FEMA’s HMA programs.
• Experience with CDBG-DR, CDBG-MIT or other federal grants a plus.
• Strong writing and communication skills a must.
• Experience with NEPA compliance a plus.
• Knowledge of HAZUS/GIS, EMAP, NFIP and CRS a plus.
• Experience developing or reviewing DMA 2000 hazard mitigation plans a plus.
• Strong work ethic, self-motivated and capable of independent work, but demonstrated ability to work on project teams.
• Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Must pass background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy. Must also pass a federal background check required for FEMA contract work

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $120,000 - $150,000
