Our Water Resources Team is seeking a Senior Spring 2023 Water Resources Engineering Intern to work out of our Morristown, NJ or Lawrenceville, NJ office.
Your Impact
- Respond to complex issues for urban and rural environments in a context of climate change by combining design and engineering knowledge to produce the best projects for our clients.
- Collect data and gather information and documents.
- Assist with watershed and riverine modeling, perform stream/wetland restoration and water quality studies, assist with the design of ecosystem restoration projects, perform seepage and scour analyses, and develop flood inundation maps.
- Perform basic design tasks and drawings using computer-aided design (CADD) related to the development of conceptual water and environmental projects.
- Organize and modify geospatial data and create maps using ArcGIS.
- Provide support for project plan development, research, technical calculations, cost estimating, permit applications, and technical report writing.
- Perform field visits and site reconnaissance as dictated by project requirements.
- Assist with drainage and runoff calculations, design of stormwater management and green infrastructure, storm sewer piping system design.
- Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
- Learn basic principles of Civil and Water Resources Engineering.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related Masters or PhD program.
- Demonstrated interest in Water Resources and Stormwater Management, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using, or willingness to learn, MS Suite of Applications; CADD/Civil 3D; HEC-RAS or similar riverine modeling softwater; HydroCAD or similar hydrologic / hydraulic software; Revu Bluebeam.
