WSP is initiating a search for a full-time Senior Environmental Planner for our any of our offices in the Midwest or Plains states including, but not limited to: Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; Cincinnati, OH; Kansas City, MO; St. Louis, MO; Lincoln, NE; Minneapolis, MN; Wichita, KS; Detroit, MI; Lansing, MI. The ideal candidate will have some NEPA experience, however; this experience is not required and necessary training will be provided. We have an immediate opening for a motivated environmental planner with experience on transportation and/or energy-related projects. The Environmental Planner is expected to support a variety of transit, rail and highway transportation projects that are going through a Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) or National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process. The Environmental Planner will work closely with planning, environmental planning, transit, rail, engineering across WSPs central region to research, analyze, document and present information related to various types of transportation or energy projects for multiple clients in the Midwest and Plains states.
The successful candidate must be a motivated team player, excited to grow their skills in environmental planning and environmental dcoumentation, local, state and federal regulatory requirements and best practices.
Your Impact
- Program management and project management, including successfully delivering projects, including staffing, budget and quality
- Collecting, analyzing and interpreting analytic and written data (i.e. land use, freight, economic, demographic, fiscal, legal, natural resources, human resources, etc.)
- Coordinating, guiding and occasionally overseeing other team members and consultants
- Composing correspondence and reports for project activities
- Technical writing and report preparation
- Developing strong working relationships with a variety of clients, teaming partners and other WSP staff

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in transportation, land use, environmental, or energy planning and policy work
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, Geography, Public Policy, or a related discipline is required
- General knowledge of, and experience with, federal, state and local planning processes
- Strong reserach, analysis and writing skills
- Ability to effectively present and communicate ideas orally and in written form
- Critical, strategic and creative thinking skills
- Computer skills (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint). GIS skills are a plus.
- Ability to gather and analyze data critically and develop supporting information and reports
- Possess strong communication skills, a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and positive attitude
- Must be a team player
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Preferred Qualifications:
- NEPA or PEL experience is a plus
- GIS skills
- Master’s Degree is preferred
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification
