Professional Job Family: Administrative Professional - Not OT Eligible Position Details: Summary of Duties: The Associate State Director is responsible for providing management and leadership of publicly-funded initiatives that serve the mission of the Washington Small Business Development Center (SBDC). As delegated by the State Director, starts and grows projects by searching for and acquiring additional funds and/or leveraging mutually beneficial partnerships. Supports the State Director by assisting with the managerial and leadership aspects of the SBDC program, including the operational aspects of the service units and the design, deployment and integration of the SBDC’s strategic plan. Additionally, the Associate Director represents the SBDC to key stakeholders such as the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Washington State University (WSU), other academic institutions, business organizations, civic groups, and government in tandem with, or in the absence of, the State Director. This position also serves as an additional Principal Investigator (co-P.I.) of the SBDC program when the State Director is unavailable. Required Qualifications: Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a related field which has included at least two (2) years of management experience. A Master’s degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Leadership, project, and operational management experience. Experience conducting analysis to inform strategic and operational performance and direction. Proven team building, organizational, mentoring, and communication experience. Demonstrated experience performing complex tasks such as analysis, project oversight, negotiation, and communication with attention to detail. Experience with accounting practices for grant funds. Preferred Qualifications: Three (3) years or more experience in a Small Business Development Center or similar program. Seven (7) years or more of progressively responsible roles in management and/or leadership. Demonstrated ability to: prepare comprehensive, technical narrative and statistical performance reports to funders; negotiate complex, multi-dimensional agreements with funders and/or project partners; and manage a relational database to enable data integrity, accurate reporting and in-depth analysis. Understanding and applying Malcom Baldrige or similar performance management and continuous improvement concepts. Working knowledge of SBDC expectations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of operating in compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
