What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sterile processing sterile position at WVU Medicine?
Performs decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment throughout the surgery center, hospital and physician offices, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND / OR LICENSURE :
1. High School diploma or equivalent

1. Certification in sterile processing
EXPERIENCE :
1. Previous sterile processing experience
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.

1. Retrieves contaminated instruments and delivers sterile instruments to where needed.
2. Removes debris by manually cleaning instrument.
3. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of decontamination equipment.
4. Inspects instruments and equipment to ensure the safety of our patients.
5. Tests and reports detected problems with all equipment.
6. Responsible for separating and keeping track of items that have been cleaned and sterilized.
7. Ensures to remove all waste matter from transfer carts.
8. Responsible for organizing, storing, and keeping records of sterile supplies.
9. Responsible for checking the expiration dates on supplies.
10. Maintains a clean work area following established departmental policies and procedures, and infection control standards.
11. Properly operates all mechanical machinery within central sterile.
12. Applies established policies and procedures in completing work assignments.
13. Properly de-lints towels and sheets.

1. Must meet Department of Labor’s MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).
2. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.
3. Must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighting in excess of 200 pounds.
