What are the responsibilities and job description for the Embedded Software Engineer - BIOS position at X-ES?
Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to develop solutions across a wide range of ruggedized hardware products and applications. As part of the Embedded BIOS software team, you will contribute to all stages of software development, from requirements and design, through implementation and verification, to Continuing Engineering and customer support. Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop software in an Agile-based model utilizing best practices, including peer reviews, coding standards and software requirements.
- Involved in all stages of software development including formulating requirements and test cases, implementing the design and performing validation.
- Write low-level software for Intel x86, PowerPC, ARM, RISC-V, and other microprocessors and microcontrollers.
- Write automated regression software in Python to continuously verify hardware and software functionality.
- Collaborate with peers inside and outside the team to quickly resolve technical issues and ensure a high level of product quality.
- Create and maintain professional documentation for internal and external customers.
- Promote the development and guidance of entry level Software Engineers.
- Ability to understand complex systems, communicate and work with customers across the company to resolve design decisions.
- Coordinate and offer guidance in task management with fellow Software Engineers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related degree.
- Minimum of three (3 ) years of related technical experience.
- Prior experience with Embedded Systems and programming microprocessors/microcontrollers and register-level devices in C/C .
- Computer proficiency and a high level of organization with strong attention to detail.
- Highly self-motivated in order to drive projects forward, with strong organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently.
- Ability to work onsite from our facility located at 9901 Silicon Prairie Parkway in Verona, WI.
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency with Python 3 and C/C .
- Experience writing assembly language
- Experience writing requirements and test cases
- Experience debugging and troubleshooting Embedded Systems.
- Experience with reading electrical schematics and understanding basic circuits.
- Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps environments, such as Jenkins, Gitlab, and Docker.
- Knowledge of tools, such as in-circuit debugging, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
- Knowledge with standard interfaces like PCIe, I2c, and SPI.
- Familiarity with standard interfaces like DDR, SATA, USB, and Ethernet.
- Familiarity with industry specifications like UEFI, ACPI, IPMI, VPX, cPCI, and ATCA.
- Familiarity with embedded security concepts like code signing and defensive coding.
- Comfortable using multiple operating systems, such as Window, Linux, and VxWorks.
- Highly self-motivated in order to drive projects forward, with strong organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines.
