Position Summary
Supports Xcel Energy's Commercial Operations group in ensuring the real time energy demands of its customers are met. Develops knowledge and expertise by completing a series of assignments in the Coal Supply group. Acquires utility industry knowledge and proficiency in the skill sets needed to advance into other roles within the Commercial Operations group.
Essential Responsibilities
- Transportation Group: Under the supervision of experienced staff, coordinate the scheduling and nomination process for each of the OpCos for fuel deliveries of coal, wood, biomass and fuel oil. Maintain and deliver semi-monthly updates on deliveries and impacts to various inventory levels at Xcel generating facilities. Calculate monthly and quarterly price adjustments for transportation contracts.
- Fuel Procurement Group: Under the supervision of experienced staff, assist with the purchase and supporting analytics to provide best cost options of fuel for various Xcel generating facilities. Also provide real time end of month delivered fuel prices that support Power System Operations and dispatch of generating facilities. Assist with the annual development of the Fuel Plan and maintain and provide Fuel Procurement manager with updated monthly data to show open positions for balance of year.?? Calculate monthly price adjustments for fuel procurement as well as quality price adjustments for fuel deliveries.
- Regulatory Fuel Filings: Under the supervision of experienced staff, gather and store monthly and annual fuel data for corporate compliance to support monthly EIA 923 filings, bi-annual FERC 580 filings, fuel data for OpCo regulatory filings for fuel cause items and base case items. Also assist with intra-year data requests from Commission Staff and other regulatory questions.
- Contract Support: Under the supervision of experienced staff, gather and maintain current transportation and fuel contracts and supporting confirmation notices, insurance requirements, and contractor access paperwork for biomass suppliers. Maintain database of metrics related to fuel procurement process, assist with maintenance of Aligne fuel management system, review of coal analysis results from vendor laboratories.
- Training: Develop general operational knowledge within Commercial Operations across all three operating companies. Expand functional knowledge of Xcel Energy's core businesses beyond Commercial Operations.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or other field with an emphasis in analytical thinking (i.e. mathematics, social science fields, etc.). Six years of experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree. Working knowledge of power system operations, energy industry structure, gas scheduling, or a logistics-based industry is a plus. Must be able to handle time pressured deadlines on an hourly and daily basis. Ability to work 12-hour shifts with partial work on nights and weekends when working in Power Operations and partial on-call availability over weekends when working in Gas Supply is required.
