Position Summary

Manage the day to day operations of the Disability Solutions department to meet/exceed quality, cost, and customer satisfaction metrics. Responsible for providing Leave of Absence related services and counsel on complex cases to employees and leaders. This role will include responsibilities related to Worker's Compensation case management and accommodation processes. Ensures and supports completion of compliance related duties in accordance with company policy, state, and federal leave laws. Responsible for identifying opportunities for process improvements and recommending solutions to address inefficiencies.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Consult, advise and administer company absence management/Return to Work programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (FMLA, CFRA, ADA, USERRA, etc.). Serve as an escalation point to address more complex cases in support of the team. Supports the approval/denial process for complex leave cases based on relevant medical information. Ensures that all confidential employee leave of absence records are kept in compliance with HIPAA, Employee Privacy guidelines and company policy and are closely monitored and effectively executed.
  • Ensure proper management of all administrative aspects of complex or highly sensitive leave claims and work; closely with the business leaders, HR and Payroll to ensure that key dates, details and status for employees is accurate. Partner with disability/leave vendor on FMLA and short-term disability absences and act as a liaison between the vendor and management on behalf of the Company and Disability Solutions leadership. Ensure proper integration of vendor leave administration; handle short term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) claim escalations.
  • Responsible for the management of employees. Effectively attract, recruit, select and retain employees. Manage employee performance through goal setting, feedback, and recognition. Create and execute development plans. Provide coaching to improve performance. Provide recommendations and/or set expectations for performance improvements related to quality, quantity, and documentation of customer contacts. Identify training needs to ensure employees have knowledge of job expectations, an understanding of the programs, and products and services offered and enhance customer service skills. Facilitate the coordination, development and implementation of training materials/programs.
  • Counsel on topics related to leaves of absence. Strategically build partnerships with internal and external partners to coordinate solutions and maintain communication and cooperation regarding work absences and return to work programs and processes. Build and maintain effective relationship between the vendor/physician/company/employee to encourages prompt and effective exchange of information to determine the employee's functional ability.
  • Develop and deliver training related materials to business partners to ensure understanding of program philosophy and initiatives, awareness of available resources, impact of regulatory issues, and employee involvement. Educate employees and managers on types of leaves available and answer questions related to the policies and programs. Stay abreast of legal and/or regulatory changes relative to Leave of Absence laws along with trends and best practices. Apply skills and knowledge to process improvements or enhancements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Five (5) years of Human Resources or related experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of disability management theory and practice, relevant state and federal laws and regulations, specifically ADAAA and FMLA, and benefit design and implementation.
  • Proven communication, problem analysis, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization
  • Developing leadership skills Preferred
  • Certifications in leave management or human resources
  • Benefit design and implementation experience

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $81,000.00 to $115,866.66 per year

Pay and benefit packages may vary based on position. Some employees are under collective bargaining agreements, which determine the benefits they will receive.
